Rockwell Claims Gold In First MWA Event

Spavinaw, OK welcomed professional wrestling to its town Friday night as 8 of the top competitors in the state stepped forward to be crowned the first MWA Champion. In the end, the battle came down to 2 wrestlers with extensive wrestling families in a battle for the gold.
TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell made it into the finals by pulling out a victory in the first round against his former tag team partner El Super Colibri. The contest of former Team Super Teriffic members was fast paced, but Rockwell's cunning brought him a narrow victory. Rockwell then faced off against another masked competitor in the form of the Canadian Red Devil. These 2 men were no strangers to each other and perhaps sensing potential defeat, Rockwell's manager Stevie Caballero grabbed the ring bell from the announcer's table and slid it into the ring, then distracted the referee while Rockwell hit the Devil over the head with it. 3 seconds later, Rockwell was 1 match closer to being crowned champion.
On the other side, Blake Albright took on Jack Legacy in the first round. Legacy seemed to underestimate his opponent, but Blake's situation wasn't helped any with the appearance of Michael Barry at ringside during their match. When Blake scored the victory, Barry & Legacy, who earlier had appeared to have some heat with each other, revealed a collusion and began to assault Albright in the ring, causing some of the teenage female fans to burst into tears. Blake's injuries were given no real opportunity to heal as he had to face Barry in the second round. Barry came out and told MWA ring announcer Mike Iles to just go ahead and announce him as the winner, but Albright persevered, with his ribs heavily taped, came out to compete in the match. Barry might have been overconfident in his ability to defeat his injured opponent as, towards the end of the match, he pulled Albright up in the middle of a pinning attempt to issue more punishment. Barry then tried to pick Albright up for a vertical suplex, but Albright turned it into a surprise small package and advanced in the tournament. This provoked another attack from Barry on Albright's ribs, reinjuring them and forcing Albright to be assisted from the ring.
In the finals, Rockwell came out draped in the Texas flag and accompanied by his manager Stevie Caballero. Albright stumbled to the ring, ribs retaped and obviously not 100%. But no matter how much he was hurting, Albright would not back down. He had a family reputation to hold up and he was determined to win his first championship gold. Despite his injuries, Albright looked to be on the verge of scoring the major upset against the more experienced Rockwell, but again, Michael Barry came to ringside to provide a distraction. This allowed Rockwell to schoolboy Albright and get the 3-count, becoming the first MWA Champion.
Rockwell now joins Al Farat & Michael Faith as the only wrestlers to currently hold mutliple titles. Rockwell is the only one of the 3 to hold 2 singles titles as he is quickly approaching the 6-month mark in his TAP Oklahoma Heritage reign. He won't have any time to rest on his laurels, though as next month, there will be a Battle Royal to determine the #1 contender to Rockwell's MWA Title.
