Bobby Burns rounds up the SRPW Title
Posted: May 23rd 2006 By: CMBurnham
Despite having an undefeated record this year in SRPW, Bobby Burns had been unable to secure a title shot for the SRPW Championship. But that all changed May 19th, as he put together a plan to corner Champion Shane Morbid into a title shot.
Burns had been posting on the SRPW message board for a few weeks, challenging Morbid to a title match, but Morbid refused to respond. On Friday night, Burns came to the ring and demanded that Morbid come out and give him a title match. Morbid came to the ring and ran down a list of challengers that he had defeated in recent weeks, including Cade Sydal, Luc Lapointe and NWA Oklahoma Champion John O'Malley. Burns replied that Morbid was ducking him and demanded a shot that night. At first, Morbid was reluctant, but he finally agreed and the match was set for the main event that night.
When it came time for the main event, Shane came out and tried to get counted out so he could retain his title, but Burns had anticipated this move and enlisted the help of Pork Chop and Cpl. James Warbois to keep Shane from running away. With no escape open to him, Shane was forced to try and match power with power against Burns and came out the loser. Burns became the new SRPW Champion and Morbid was lucky to walk away from the match.
Although he?s best known for his tag team work, Bobby Burns has had some success in singles competition. He was the champion of the World Wrestling Empire in the mid-1990s, defeating T. J. Steele for that title. He also held the National Wrestling Association Title.
Burns has stated that he will be a fighting champion and the contenders are already lining up. It is expected that Shane Morbid will exercise his rematch clause soon. And after the in-ring conversation with Shane Morbid, Bobby Burns grabbed guest ring announcer Big Stevie Caballero by the throat in anger, demanding that Stevie make certain that the match takes place. Caballero?s client, Tommy Smash, is reported to be upset at Burns about this behaviour.
