A former pro wrestler is the new warden of a federal detention center in Robstown.
New Warden Art Crews has been in corrections for several years.
He said phase one is about done and they expect to house between 400 and 1,200 inmates when the center opens in mid-October.
In the meantime, L.C.S. Corrections said it will be a 21st Century operation that is energy efficient. L.C.S. has been building the facility and will run it when it opens. [cg :name and titlej.c. Crickproject supervisor]
"We're doing a lot of things in this facility that makes it more energy efficient. We're using a lot of solar panels out there to get most of our outwater, and that's sort of different for prisons," Project Supervisor J. C. Crick said.
"You know, a prison isn't just inside a prison, like you see on T.V," Crews said. "It's a matter of working and partnershipping with the community, and educating the citizens of this community, as well as everybody else, about what a prison's like, and how a prison functions and operates."
