Saints of Twilight and New Canada Prepare To Clash At Night Of Champions IX
Posted: Aug 7th 2008 By: CMBurnham
One of the more fascinating matches on the upcoming Night Of Champions card will be the first clash between the recently rechristened Saints of Twilight and New Canada. These two teams recently engaged in a brawl that saw no resolution, a situation both Ignition and Reckless and The Canadian Luchadore & TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil hopes will be different after this Saturday.
In truth, the Saints of Twilight may owe their current incarnation to New Canada. Both teams faced off in a friendly match on June 28, 2008. At that point, New Canada were the ComPro Tag Team Champions and were being managed by the Shadow of Death and the Saints wore masks and were known as Sudden Impact. SI came up short in their challenge for the belts, but SoD decided that this was a motivational opportunity. He abandoned New Canada and stripped SI of their masks in the ring, signalling a rebirth for the men.
The next time we saw SI, they were wearing face paint and had changed their team name to the Saints of Twilight. Individual names would be revealed later. More than just their names had changed. They now took advantage of their twin appearance and, as Reckless faced Cold Blooded Chris in a singles match, they switched out repeatedly while the referee was unaware, essentially turning the match into a handicap match.
Two weeks ago, Reckless faced the Luchadore in a singles match and pulled out a victory, again utilising this tactic. But the Luchadore was prepared for this when he faced Ignition this last Saturday. After pulling the switcheroo on 3 occasions, the Luchadore had had enough of the tactic and went to get the Devil to watch his back. CRD and Reckless battled to the back while the Luchadore applied the full-nelson facebuster and won the match.
After intermission, the Devil came out to face Reckless in another singles match. After just a few moments of action, Ignition entered the ring, quickly followed by the Luchadore. Generic Referee One called for the bell and a double DQ, but ComPro commissioner Ray Martinez jumped up on the apron and said that he was turning the match into an impromptu tag team match. This match also went a very short time, when both teams began to battle in the ring and ignore the referee's instructions and again, the referee had no choice but to call for a double DQ.
Based on their desire to bring this to the ring one more time, Martinez announced that the two teams would be facing each other this Saturday at Night of Champions IX. Even though neither team has the tag team gold, it seems that a victory here would propel the winning team to #1 contender status and they would face the winner of the Mexican Combo Platter/Rocco Valentino & Dutch Hagen career match at a future date.
