Surprise Reunion! Forsaken Win Tag Team Titles For A 4th Time
Posted: Jul 30th 2008 By: CMBurnham
The Forsaken hold a position in the annals of Oklahoma tag teams as one of the most dominating pairs this state has ever seen. Form OCW Oklahoma Tag Team champions. Former TPW Tag Team Champions. And 3-time MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions. For many modern fans, the Forsaken are just as legendary as the VIP Crew: a tag team that was great, but hasn't been together in a long time. In this case, that was due to Halo's injury which put him out of active competition in 2005.
Despite no longer being able to compete, Halo was still very active in pro wrestling, serving as the commissioner of MSWA. In that time, he'd had to deal with all manner of ridiculous issues including the invasion of IZW, the Lethal Lotto Tag Team Tournament and most recently the arrogant behaviour of the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Limited Edition.
With all these issues (and more) crashing down around him, it seems likely that Halo was not thrilled to see the show on July 20 begin with Les Mayne and newly crowned 3DW Texoma Champion Dane Griffin dragging Tyson Jaymes out of the locker room area and into the ring. The tag team champions beat on Tyson, prompting Jason Kirby (who was filling in at the sound booth) to run to the back to get assistance. The obvious assistance would have been SWCW Champion 3rd Rail, but when Rail appeared, he couldn't provide much help. He was tied to a chair and struggled to gain his freedom with Kirby's help. Finally, after busting loose from his bonds, Rail forced Limited Edition to scatter, but not before they had knocked Jaymes unconscious in their beating.
Jaymes had to be carried to the back and the show went on with Crisstopher Crow facing SWCW Cruiserweight champion Sage. But an irate 3rd Rail put this match out to pasture when he hit the ring and destroyed EVERYONE, including SWCW Tag Team Champions Damien Morte and Rage who were at ringside to show support for their Nemesis associate. With bodies lying everywhere, Halo and MSWA Oklahoma Champion (and MSWA owner) Bad Boy came to the ring. Bad Boy told Rail to calm down and go help his partner, who was still unconscious. And due to his actions, Rail was suspended for the day. This did nothing to help Rail's attitude, but seeing no other option he left the ring area.
At this point, Bad Boy went up to Halo and began to dress him down in public about the job he had been doing as commissioner. A proud man, Halo did not feel this was the best place to have this discussion, nor did he feel the accusations leveled at him were proper. He said that this was just like when Halo worked at Paradise City (a club that Bad Boy owned). Everytime he made a decision, Bad Boy would overturn it. Bad Boy quickly replied that if Halo couldn't do the job, he could hit the bricks. It looked like Halo would back down, but instead of apologising, Halo announced that he quit as commissioner and left the ring.
The next time the fans saw the Mid-South tag team champions, they were all smiles. They entered the ring and announced that Tyson had a concussion, but they weren't sure why since they had "nothing to do with that". They weren't even sure if they should have to wrestle since, according to the logic posed by Les Mayne, they had "broken a sweat" and therefore that should count as a match. Plus, with the South Side Soul Assassins unable to challenge them, there was no one for them to face, so they should get the night off. This brought out 3DW Champion Michael Faith. He said he saw what they did and he went to talk to Bad Boy. Bad Boy told him that if his partner arrived, they would get a tag team title shot on this show. Faith then said that his partner was there, which brought protests from Les Mayne. He argued that Rexx Reed had promised to be at the shows on several other occassions and had no-showed every time. Plus, with Rexx being the same size as Faith, it was kind of hard to miss seeing him, but Les had not seen him in the back. Faith countered by saying that if his partner wasn't there, it would be an easy situtation for the champions as they would be facing Faith in a Handicap match. Dane and Les seemed to believe this might work out in their favour and agreed to face Faith, with or without his partner, in the main event.
When it came time for the main event, the cocky champions arrived first, struting to the ring with their title belts confidently strapped around their waists. They then waited as Jesse Storm announced Michael Faith & Rexx Redd, known as the First Generation Bad Asses, but only Faith came out. As the champions began to taunt the challenger about where his partner was, the lights went out and music began to play. A hooded figure approached the ring in darkeness and when referee Rob Justice peeked under the hood, he screamed out "That's not Rexx Reed!!" The figure then threw back the hood to reveal Halo and the Forsaken stood reunited in the ring for the first time in over 2 1/2 years. Caught off guard, the champions were not prepared to face over a quarter-ton of brotherhood in ring. They put up some good defence, but it was really only a matter of time as Halo struck with the Claw Bomb and Faith demolished his opponent, setting up for double pin and new tag team champions.
Halo was gracious enough to explain his return to the ring in an exclusive interview. He said that his initial injury 5 years ago, which was diagnosed as an inner ear fluid problem, was incorrect. In truth, what he had was a misalignment of his skull on top of his spine and thanks to the work of an expert chiropracter in Madill, OK, Halo was able to compete at the 3DW event on July 5 for the first time since 2006. While he will still have to have regular treatment from this chiropracter, he should be in good ring shape, barring any unexpected injury.
With Les Mayne departing for Arizona next month, Limited Edition will be deprived of a return match unless Mayne comes back. And at this point, the tag team scene in Mid-South looks a little trim. Scott Sanders is still out injured. Se7en seems to have his head elsewhere. Nemesis is preoccupied with thier fued against Sage & Jason Kirby. And what of the South Side Soul Assassins? Tyson Jaymes came out after the match and shook the hands of Faith & Halo, but he has to be aware that, if he hadn't been knocked out and if 3rd Rail hadn't been tied up, they would have gotten the tag team title shot themselves. Will the Forsaken grant the South Siders a shot? And who will replace Halo as MSWA commissioner? As the summer comes to a close, things look to be heating up more than ever in Midwest City.
