Ray Martinez: Champion Commissioner

Since entering SRPW in the summer of 2005, Ray Martinez has presented himself as a stand-up man in the face of the issues that have been plaguing the company. He eliminated people like Brandon Bishop and Karl Davis. He has put together matches that the fans wanted to see. But in recent weeks, it seemed like something was a little fishy in Ray?s actions and Friday night, the truth was revealed in regards to his actions.

Ray began the night in regular form. After SRPW Women?s Champion Lily McKenzie DDTed ring announcer Jessi Jersey, Ray took action when he noticed that former SRPW ring announcer Mike Iles was in the audience. He quickly offered Mike the opportunity to come back and work for SRPW, which Mike took.

But the strange actions began very quickly. First, right before re-hiring Mike Iles, Ray got off his cell phone and announced that SRPW owner Sarah Harmon had decreed that Jessi Jersey MUST face Lily McKenzie at the next show on May 5. Sarah has reportedly been in Central America for over a month, leaving Ray as acting commissioner in her absence.

The culmination of all the shenanigans came at the end of the show. Mitch Carter was supposed to defend the X Division Title against Kenny Campbell, but Campbell had a family emergency that prevented him from showing up. So he was replaced with Ray?s long-time enemy Sonny C. Sonny seemed a little surprised at this when he came to the ring, but more shocks were to come when, after Mitch made his entrance, Ray blasted Mitch in the back of the head with the X Division belt, knocking him out. The Dalton/Legacy Gang then arrived and Ray tried to give Sonny the X Division Title. Sonny refused to take it, berated his former friends in the Gang and received a beat down from all members until members of the SRPW locker room arrived to chase them off.

In the midst of the beat down, Ray got on the microphone and announced to the crowd that, since Sonny had refused the belt, Ray was proclaiming himself the X Division Champion!

Ray?s attitude change has been apparent for a month or so. Although he tried to maintain a straight-laced image in SRPW & IZW, he was brought into ACW at the behest of Brandon Bishop to replace popular ring announcer Steve O. Ray & Steve are set to face off in a match in May to determine who the official ring announcer for that federation is.
