Rockwell Has 2 Weeks To Prove How Terrific He Is

Being a second generation wrestler brings with it a certain amount of confidence. Usually, you have an easier time getting into the sport of pro wrestling. Often times, you have a name recognition that gets you bookings and accolades that you might not deserve. TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell didn't need any of that. Or at least he didn't use it. When he entered wrestling in 2004, he covered up the FACT that he was the nephew of Bernard Funk and Flamon Raymon. But after leaving SRPW, Rockwell embarked on a career turn that led him to the #1 position in the 2007 Oklafan Top 50.

With a pedigree of that nature and accomplishments like those, many people might think that they are something teriffic. But Rockwell doesn't just claim to think that, he claims to know it. And ever since the break-up of his team with El Super Colibri, Rockwell made a point of shoving in his former partner's face that, while Colbri might be "super", Rockwell was "terrific".

But nicknames and self aggrandisment did nothing for Rockwell 2 weeks ago when he finally had to defend his ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title against Colibri. Colibri had earned a shot at the title by winning a 2-night tournament to become the #1 contender, defeating Justin Lee in the finals. Rockwell, who had never been pinned since becoming Oklahoma X Champion, knew that he had his work cut out with Colibri and he and manager Big Stevie Caballero used every trick in their book to hold onto that gold. But despite all his efforts, Rockwell was unable to pull out the win and Colibri stripped him of his position as the only wrestler to currently hold multiple singles titles in Oklahoma.

While Colibri celebrated, Rockwell & Caballero whined. They complained about the referee, the "cheating" that Colibri did and everything else they could think of. None of that brought them back the belt. So last Saturday, after Colibri had defeated Rico Suave, Rockwell came to the ring alone to plead his case. Again, he complained to ComPro comissioner Kitty that Colibri had cheated and he wanted his belt returned to him. Colibri made no effort to comply with this and the crowd responded in kind by chanting "Not Your Belt" at Rockwell. Rockwell told the fans that wasn't funny and demanded a rematch from Kitty. But Kitty brought to the fans' attention that Rockwell & Caballero had been so confident in their abilities over Colibri that neither had put a return-match clause in the contract. So Kitty was under no obligation to grant a match to Rockwell.

Kitty then announced that in two weeks, she would be naming a new #1 contender. He had that long to impress her and throwing a fit wasn't going to do it. Knowing that every moment counted, Rockwell attempted to Pearl Harbour Colibri, but Colibri ducked and Rockwell went awry in his attempt to attack from behind. The fans went nuts in delight as the big-headed Texan looked helpless against the Oklahoma X Division Champion.

Two weeks isn't very long, but Rockwell has done lots in small amounts of time. His winning streak while champion certainly can't be ignored. Nor can his Oklafan Top 50 ranking. Plus, on the ComPro message board, a recent poll put Rockwell at #1 in the order of contenders to the belt, followed by Justin Lee & ComPro Tag Team & TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil.

Whatever Rockwell has planned, he'd better put it into effect soon. Or else, come June 7, he won't be hearing his name announced for a title shot. And for many people, that would be a decision certainly qualifing as terrific.
