Tim Rockwell: "Colibri May Be Super, But I'm Teriffic!"

Tim Rockwell: "Colibri May Be Super, But I'm Teriffic!"

Posted: May 14th 2008 By: CMBurnham

Since being named #1 in the 2007 Oklafan Top 50, ComPro Oklahoma X Division and TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell has not been one to lack in confidence. Winning both those titles only helped increase the size of his ego. And a recent return to his rulebreaking ways alongside manager Big Stevie Caballero only showed that this Texan had never truly changed his spots.

Rockwell was fully confident that he could outwrestle every opponent in the X Division, but when his former tag team partner El Super Colibri won a tournament guaranteeing him a title shot, things changed. Instead of confidence, Rockwell began to act like someone afraid of their own ghosts. Gone was the bragging, back were the underhanded deeds. And while he couldn't avoid facing Colibri in matches set up by the ComPro Board of Directors, as well as ComPro commissioner Kitty, he certainly did everything he could to put the odds on his side.

On May 3, Rockwell & Colibri faced each other in a non-title match. With nothing to lose (except pride), it wouldn't have been surprising to see Rockwell get disqualified or simply walk away from the match. Instead, Rockwell & Colibri used distraction and the Oklahoma X Division Title belt to knock Colibri out. After the 3 count was applied, Rockwell stood over his fallen opponent and reminded him that, while he was "super", Rockwell was "teriffic" and that was always going to be the case.

On Saturday morning, things had gotten no better. Although Caballero was not present, Rockwell again would be facing Colibri in a non-title match, but this time it would be in a Triple Threat Match and the third man in would be ComPro Tag Team & TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil. For a while, it appeared that Colibri might be able to pull out a victory in this match, as Rockwell and the Devil engaged in a battle of territorial supremacy, shouting "Texas!" and "Canada!" to the crowd with diminishing results. Knowing he had 2 opponents to deal with, Colibri did what he could to pit them against each other, which prolonged the match, but ultimately did not help him. After knocking the Devil out of the ring, Rockwell applied a grapevine DDT to Colibri and scored another important victory.

But Saturday night, Rockwell took his issue with Colibri to an entirely different level. Colibri was set to wrestle against the Greatest Bolo, but that didn't last too long. Shortly after the match began, Rockwell and Caballero appeared, interfering in the match. That gave Colibri a win by DQ, but given the circumstances after that decision, he would probably have been happier acceptiing a loss. Rockwell & Caballero went on to publicly humiliate Colibri, forcing him to bow before both of them and then to kiss the feet of the champion.

This issue now appears to be more personal than ever before. Rockwell's confidence, combined with the managerial knowhow (and outside interference) of Caballero, seems to put the champion in a sure-fire position to retain at the ComPro Night of Champions this Saturday. But Colibri, who has yet to taste championship gold, certainly has retribution on his side. He's been pushed as low as anyone can go in his situation. Now, Rockwell may see just how "Super" Colibri really is.
