Colorado Community Gets Behind an Oklahoma Original
Posted: Apr 29th 2008 By: CMBurnham
Though Asylum Championship Wrestling started in Lawton,OK in 2001, due to it's owners move, ACW is now a Colorado Wrestling Promotion. ACW still features quite a few names from it's Oklahoma past such as Michael Barry, Kenny Campbell, Mitch Carter, Carnage, Rexx Reed, Seth Allen and others, joined by a new cast of Colorado wrestlers. ACW was no stranger to financial woes whuile running in Southern Oklahoma & Northern Texas over the past 6 years. If it wasn't for their superior product, and a loyal fan base, ACW might have never lasted as long as they did with their minimal advertising. Though several businesses did indeed support ACW in texoma, it was nothing compared to the output of Colorado Springs community.
As the time of this press release, ACW has amasses thousands of dollars in sponsorship and support, from just under 30 member of the Colorado Springs communtiy, With these funds Bishop has stated "I can finally advertise like I've been wanting to for the past 6 years, and I'm not just talking about handing out flyers, I've always done that, and 9 out of ten times people wipe their ass with them, I'm talking about the full Ka-Bang! In Texas & Oklahoma people walk around with a tight grip on their money and a mind thats closed even tighter. Here in ACW's new home, It's the complete opposite. People might not realize, but I paid for every single ACW in Oklahoma & Texas with the very little cash I happen to have during that period of my life. The income from the gates of events were a joke. Therefore ACW wasn't a source of income for me, but instead a monthly bill. Every month I would be arranging the bills, Lights, Rent, Car, O'Malley, Insurance, Cable, Angel Williams, etc etc. It's beyond wonderful to already have the next show paid for, and have a buzz going around town like nothing I've been a part of since my band days in Detroit. Everyone here is excited, as opposed to looking down on us as if we were some piece of garbage back yard fed that they didn't approve of. In Colorado Springs we are a part of this community and we're respected as such. As you know I'm originally from Detroit, MI, and throughout the 9 years I spent in Texoma I was critically homesick, not anymore, this is my home and even though we've already had out share of drama with ACW here, things have never been better, and I truly feel as though we can do something very special here with ACW. Everything has fallen into place so easily this time around, and I truly have the city & the communtiy within this city to thank for it. On my monthly trips back to Wichita Falls & Lawton to see my brats & to work the occassional gig, I cringe at the thought of having to live and run ACW there. No offense to those still trapped there, If you love it, that's great, but for me, I needed out & I finally got out! Here's a challenge for you though, make one of these ACW gigs in Colorado, and then tell me with a straight face that you don't see yourself having a better life here. It's waiting for you people! And this message has been brought to you by the board of Colorado tourism!"
ACW is gearing up for it's June 13th return here in Colorado Springs Live at The Phil Long Expo Center. Dr Death Steve Williams will be in action, also taking place with be the biggest BAttle Royale in Indy Wrestling history to take place in one single ring. Over 35 people will fight it out to crown a new ACW Champion. It's only 10 hours away from Oklahoma, make the trip, enjoy the community, we are.
