New Canada Fights Global Warfare For Tag Team Titles

If it were full-scale war, it would be a horrible position for the United States to be in. 2 countries, Canada and Mexico, waged war on each other with the United States seemingly caught in the middle. Thankfully, it was only a wrestling match and not something bigger. But in the minds of the combatants, it might as well have been global thermonuclear war as the ComPro Tag Team titles were on the line and both teams had plenty of national pride at stake.

The Canadian Luchadore & The Canadian Red Devil were supposed to get this title shot the previous week, but La M manager Ray Maritinez came out with Jesus Rodriguez and explained that El Choppo was under the weather with a strong case of Montezuma's Revenge. He quickly pointed out that the ComPro bylaws stated that, in order for the ComPro Tag Team titles to be on the line, both members of the championship team must be present. With El Choppo gone, Martinez insisted that there would not be a title match. ComPro commissioner Kitty was forced to agree to these terms, but she asserted her authourity by declaring that the titles would be on the line the next week and, if Choppo was still sick, Ray would take his place in the title defence or La M would forfeit the belts. She also stated that the tag team title match would see both teams' managers barred from ringside (again, assuming Choppo showed up and Ray didn't have to wrestle). After all that was signed, TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil took on ComPro Tag Team Champion Jesus Rodriguez in an impromptu 1-on-1 match. There was plenty of activity on the outside as the Canadian Luchadore chased Ray Martinez around. But the action in the ring was more important and the Devil pulled off a singles victory, forshadowing the outcome of their match the next week.

When it came time for the title defence, both teams had already seen 1 member compete earlier in the day. Choppo teamed with Big Smooth to take on the Texas Outlaws combination of Bobby Burns & J. W. Hardin at the TAP event in Muskogee. With over 1000 lbs of man in the ring, this match was hardhitting and forceful. No headscissors or frog-splashes. Just sheer power. And nothing was truly solved as the Outlaws resorted to bringing in the cowbell to earn a disqualification.

The Devil defended his TAP Title in a rematch against Matt Emerald and resorted to frequent uses of foreign objects in his match. Everything, including the TAP Heavyweight belt was seemingly brought into this match. When the Matt seemed to be gaining the upper hand, the Devil slyly slipped one of the objects into Emerald's trunks and referee John the Encourager finally caught him with it and disqualified him. The Devil was able to escape with his title intact, but just barely.

So, with one man on each team exhausted and managers barred from ringside, it looked like everything was set. But Kitty had one more surprise up her sleeves. She knew that, based on the bad feelings between these 2 teams, she needed someone who could be guaranteed to keep control in the ring. And while Mike Two and Tommy 3 Count have proven themselves to be excellent referees in the past, she needed someone who wouldn't be physically intimidated. Someone who could look El Choppo in the eye and not blink. Someone like...newly crowned ComPro Champion Romero Contreras. Contreras took control and the action began. Back and forth. Big moves. Both teams out to prove they deserved the belts. La M relied on power. New Canada took to the speed and technical ability. And at the end, it was a sharpshooter on Choppo that forced him to submit and crowned new ComPro Tag Team Champions in the form of New Canada. And as icing on the cake, after the match, Ray Martinez came out to protest the decision, but the Shadow of Death snuck up behind him and almost caused an unfortunate stain in the pants of the XXX-ican manager.

This title win puts the Canadian Red Devil in the elite class of double champions. He is one of only 3 men to hold 2 titles in 2 different feds at this point. Amazingly, this is the first title win of any kind for his partner, the Canadian Luchadore. The Luchadore has been competing since 2003, but it took him 5 years to finally capture some gold.

The Devil & The Luchadore certainly have some big shoes to fill as champions. Their former stablemates, Jon Davis & AWOL, hold the record for the longest tag team reign in the history of Oklahoma. With the reputation of their home country on their backs, New Canada will have to be prepared as several tag team combinations wait to dethrone the new champions as quickly as possible.
