Tanea Brooks to be inducted into the Owasso Athletic Hall of Fame

OWASSO, Okla. — The Owasso community is set to honor a former Rams cheerleader.

FOX23 reported last month about Tanea Brooks, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and professional wrestler who is battling ALS. Brooks is set to be inducted into the Owasso Athletic Hall of Fame. The community also took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for Brooks.

Due to her health, Brooks can't fly commercially, but still intended to be there. Her family says when travel fell through, someone in the community remembered the kindness Tanea's family showed their family and helped her return home.

"We had an Angel Flight and it fell through and she already knew we had a flight so we couldn't call and tell her she can't come, and so I just reached out a couple of people," said Terri Cash, the mother of Tanea's best friend, Heather. "One of them graduated the year after I did and he got back with me the next day and he said 'Well, here's the deal: I have a plane." and he said a long time ago his grandmother was opening an insurance office in Owasso and she didn't have the money. Tanea's grandfather helped her open the insurance office and David Chandler; he remembered that and then he watched her story and then I put in there we were just hoping God leads us to the right person. And he said 'God put his hand on my shoulder and said we need to do this.'"

Cash says after they secured the plane, they were able to get a hospital bed, wheelchair, and were able to get an escort.

Brooks gave thanks for all the people that made it possible for her to return home.

"I hope to see everyone Friday night to see me get inducted into the hall of fame." she said. "Owasso is still a small, close community. The original people are still around and we still show love. I'm feeling that love today. So thank you to my best friend Heather and her mom Terri and all of the Owasso community. I love you."

The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday night.
