Positive update on Jim Ross after second brain surgery

Jim Ross is out of surgery and should be heading home today.

Conrad Thompson, Ross’ Grilling JR podcast co-host, relayed the good news after getting an update from Ross’ daughter. The 74-year-old commentary legend underwent brain surgery this morning to address an issue with his shunt, which was inserted into Ross’ brain this August for the purpose of draining excess fluid.

“I just heard GREAT NEWS from @JRsBBQ ’s daughter: Procedure went well. He is in recovery right now,” Thompson tweeted. “Will hopefully be heading home around 3.”

The August procedure that Ross underwent was successful and the shunt has significantly improved the balance issues Ross was having. But he started to experience blistering headaches, and a CT scan showed bleeding. This led to Ross’ shunt being turned off and this second surgery being scheduled.

Ross said on the latest episode of Grilling JR that his daughter, who is a licensed physician assistant, has been a “wonderful asset” during all of the health challenges he’s been facing. She visits once a week and makes sure to call every day that she doesn’t visit.

Also on the podcast, Ross said he had a “good meeting” with his oncologist last week. A spot on his kidney was found in August, though the initial indication was that it either was not cancerous or would be easy to eliminate even if it was.

He was not able to return in time for All Out 2026 like he originally wanted, but Ross remains part of the AEW team and is grateful to have the company behind him during his health battles. He is looking forward to getting back when his health allows.
