Jim Ross experiencing ‘blistering headaches’ after brain surgery
Posted: Oct 2nd 2026 By: Joseph Currier
Jim Ross is hoping to find a solution for the post-brain surgery complications he’s been experiencing.
Following Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite, Ross went live on YouTube for a new episode of his Grilling JR podcast. The 74-year-old Ross shared how proud he is to be part of AEW after All Out 2026 and Dynamite’s PAC tribute show. Ross wants to get back to his part-time commentary role soon but needs to take care of his health. He has doctor’s appointments coming up regarding a spot on his kidney and headaches he’s been experiencing.
Ross described the headaches as “blistering,” and they’ve been waking him up in the middle of the night. His wound from brain surgery is healing well, but Ross needs to get the headaches figured out.
“I’m proud to be a part of AEW. I still got my playbook, I still got my jersey, I just got to get healthy. We’re working on that right now. CT scan tomorrow, then back to the neurosurgeon later this week,” he said
“This shunt is problematic. Having blistering headaches. They hurt so bad that I wake up in the middle of the night more often than not, you know, 2-3, 4 o’clock in the morning because I got a headache. I watched too many John Wayne movies over my lifetime to say that I’m complaining because I have a headache. The only thing I could say is that it probably would remind me of, what I think anyway, a migraine headache is. They could be debilitating. So that’s the situation. My wound on my skull is healing nicely.”
The surgery Ross had done, called a “shunt,” was for the purpose of removing excess fluid on his brain. He’s already had the shunt adjusted three times since the operation.
Ross hopes that the surgery will help with the balance problems he was having. In the various falls he sustained pre-surgery, Ross broke his wrist, messed up his groin, and suffered two broken toes.
“I’m breaking sh*t right and left, man,” Ross said. “And it’s not any fun whatsoever.”
Jim Ross grateful to have known PAC —
Having to go to the doctor so much is stressful, but it’s helped Ross find gratitude in the situation. There is always someone at the doctor’s office facing a more challenging battle than the one he’s in. Ross also expressed his gratitude for PAC and feels lucky to have known him.
“So then it’s a matter of being grateful. And I’m grateful to have known PAC,” he said. “I love the fact that what he stood for, the professionalism and the honor and the dignity.”
As a fan, Ross is grateful that he’s had pro wrestling to watch during the stressful time he’s going through.
“God bless pro wrestling. It means so much to us in our lifetime,” he added. “And for me, the last 51 years, I’ve been immersed and I don’t feel burned out. I feel very blessed, very lucky that I’m still able to put sentences together from time to time.”
