Jim Ross gives health update after dermatologist appointment

Posted: Sep 18th 2026 By: Joseph Currier

A doctor’s appointment this week left Jim Ross feeling like a “cranky f***ing old man.”

Hampered by health issues over the past few years, Ross underwent brain surgery in August and is recovering from a couple of broken toes. He gave an update on Grilling JR and noted that the podcast episode was being recorded after he had a dermatologist appointment earlier in the day. There are several moles on Ross’ back that his daughter urged him to have checked out. The process of being poked and prodded was miserable, with Ross being treated like a pincushion. He’s hoping that the biopsies come back clean with no skin cancer.

“My daughter wanted me to get my back checked. I had some moles,” Ross said. “Well, I forgot how they did that, because I’ve done it before. But when I got there and I took my shirt off, I was told that I had like seven or eight moles on my back that they were concerned about… Then they took biopsies of all those multiple moles. They’ll send those off, and in about 10 days I’ll have the results. I’m hoping it’s not the bad stuff, because I’ve gone through 22 radiation treatments on my ankle that still isn’t healed. I hear I’m going to be recommended to go to a full-time wound doctor and try to get this son of a bitch healed.”

The wound on Ross’ ankle is from the radiation he underwent after being diagnosed with skin cancer in 2021. Though the treatment was successful, his wound has never fully healed.

Ross did receive “great news” a couple of weeks ago after a mass was found on his kidney. Doctors do not believe that mass is cancerous, and they think it’ll be easy to treat even if it is.

Jim Ross working to get back to 100 percent —

Grilling JR co-host Conrad Thompson reassured Ross that he’s going to be okay and that everyone is praying for him. At 74 years old, Ross doesn’t know if he’ll ever be 100 percent again, but he is working as hard as he can to get there. Ross wants to return to AEW PPV commentary as soon as his broken toes allow.

“I’m going to do all I can to get 100 percent. I don’t know if I’ll ever be 100 percent again, but I’m going to be close,” Ross said. “And me close to 100 percent and on top of my game — I’m a baaaad man, Conrad. Bad man.”
