Nyla Rose blasts ‘hateful bigots’ over Oklahoma Athletic Commission warning to AEW

Nyla Rose spoke about her issues with the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission and Tony Khan’s support for her during a recent interview.

Following Rose wrestling at AEW/ROH’s Oklahoma City taping on December 20, 2023, Oklahoma State Athletic Commission administrator Jim Miller stated that Rose participating in AEW’s event was in violation of its rules regarding transgender women competing against cisgender women. Rose did not participate when AEW returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma, the following year and, according to Cagematch, has not wrestled in the state since.

During an interview with Denise Salcedo published Tuesday, Rose was asked about the situation.

Rose said:

“Yeah, sure. We can touch on that a little bit. So basically, I mean, to be perfectly blunt, hateful bigots, you know, with no basis for anything. Athletic Commission is a scam. They’re just a bunch of greedy people who have found an avenue to work people out of money, and they’re using new laws and loopholes to do what they want to do basically.”

AEW president Tony Khan was asked about the story during an AEW media call in April 2024. Khan stated that “transgender people have rights” and that both he and the company stand behind Rose.

When asked about Khan’s comments, Rose praised Khan for knowing “the right side of history to be on.”

Rose continued:

“I was a little shocked, to be totally honest with you. I was very shocked. I was very surprised and incredibly grateful that he would, with zero hesitation, like there was no thought there. He just, he knew the right side of history to be on and that’s where he stood 10 toes down. And for someone of his caliber in his position to do that, he absolutely did not have to, but he did. And that speaks a lot about who he is as a person and who he is as a man. And I’m so grateful to him for that.”
