MVP says a lot of today’s wrestlers are ‘scared to be real heels’

AEW’s MVP has shared his assessment of why today’s wrestlers are scared to take on heel roles.

In the latest episode of his Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, MVP opened up on the struggles of creating heel wrestlers in today’s era. The veteran claimed that wrestlers nowadays want to be cheered or take on the “tweener” role.

“See, it’s my opinion that nowadays a lot, not all, but a lot of people don’t want to be real heels. They want to be cheered or they want, ‘Oh, I’m kind of a tweener,’” he said.

“Have the courage to be a face or a heel because being a face isn’t easy. Let’s just admit, socially it’s way easier to get people to dislike you than it is to get people to like you.”

“That’s getting heat. And a lot of today’s talent are scared to be real heels. They want to be cheered. They want to be liked. They don’t really want to go all in and be a real bad guy.”

Throughout his career, MVP has successfully portrayed both heel and babyface wrestlers. In his career spanning WWE, TNA, and AEW, MVP has taken on a variety of roles and portrayed them effectively.
