Jim Ross shares post-brain surgery update
Posted: Aug 19th 2026 By: Joseph Currier
Jim Ross is on the road to recovery after undergoing brain surgery.
The commentary legend underwent a successful shunt procedure on August 12 and was originally supposed to return home last Friday. That timeline proved to be a bit too optimistic, but he should be home soon. Ross shared today that he’s going through the rehab and physical therapy process and still has his sights set on making the trip to the United Kingdom for AEW All In 2026.
“Full day of rehab and physical therapy as I’m one step closer to going home,” the 74-year-old Ross tweeted. “Appreciate all your well wishes. Goal is to work Wembley Stadium at the end of August.”

All In, which is being held in London on August 30, is now less than two weeks away. Ross’ role in AEW is to provide commentary for select matches at PPV events, though his current contract is scheduled to expire at some point this month.
Jim Ross’ brain procedure —
Last week’s surgery involved a hole being drilled into Ross’ skull so a small tube could be inserted that would drain the excess fluid on his brain. Ross has been dealing with some memory and balance issues, and he is optimistic that this procedure will help with them. Falls have been a big challenge for Ross and he knew something needed to change.
Ross posted a photo after surgery showing what the incision on his head looks like.
Before surgery, Ross traveled to Minneapolis for WrestleCon’s SummerSlam week convention and enjoyed spending time with friends like Jerry “The King” Lawler.
