Jeff Jarrett says TNA went into ‘financial death spiral’ after Hulk Hogan joined

Wrestling veteran Jeff Jarrett has opened up and blamed TNA’s “financial death spiral” on wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.

TNA was founded in May 2002 by professional wrestlers Jeff and Jerry Jarrett and was initially affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). After years of running successfully, the promotion hired Hulk Hogan in 2009. While an extremely popular name and one of the biggest faces in the pro-wrestling industry, Jeff Jarrett believes Hogan’s hiring led to the promotion’s decline.

Speaking on the latest edition of Dark Side of the Ring, Jarrett addressed Hogan’s arrival and blamed the company’s decline on him. “From the day Hulk [Hogan] came in, it was less than 12 months that we went from profitability to financial death spiral.” (H/T Fightful)

Hogan joined TNA in 2009 and made his debut in January, 2010. Hogan’s arrival also brought the start of a brand new era, alongside Dixie Carter. Hogan was portrayed as the company’s savior on television. It was his idea to remove the iconic six-sided TNA wrestling ring, as well as move Impact to Monday Night to compete with WWE RAW. While these were encouraging moves and a push toward something new, Jarrett believes it was actually a move toward a financial death spiral from a profitable run.

In October 2013, Hulk Hogan’s contract with TNA expired. This brought an end to his time as TNA’s creative consultant.
