Sudden Impact Lose The Battles, Win The War
Posted: Feb 20th 2008 By: CMBurnham
Their strength has always been tag team wrestling and Sudden Impact proved that the past Saturday when they were confronted with the forces of the Hall of Famers. What seemed like a mounting series of impossible odds turned into a great victory for the masked duo, due to the "return" of a distant cousin that hadn't been seen in months.
Despite being thought of as tag team specialists, Sudden Impact are also good soldiers and do whatever commissioner Kitty tells them to do, even if it's to compete in singles matches as has happened several times over the past few months. And once again that was the case as they were matched up in seperate matches against The Greatest Bolo and Rico Suave. Sudden Impact 2 came out to face the assassin from Guatemala, OK and, considering Bolo's past win-loss record, many fans thought this would be an easy victory for the popular masked star. But, with Rico at ringside, the Hall of Famers employed double team tactics that allowed Bolo to gain the win, aided by a handful of tights. It was the first win for the Hall of Famer and he hoped it wouldn't be the last for the faction.
As soon as one HoFer was done, the other stepped in the ring and Rico Suave took on Sudden Impact 1. Eager to gain some revenge for his brother's loss, SI1 took the fight to Rico, but Rico showed no compunction against the dirty tactics, often blindsiding SI1 from behind in order to gain an advantage. Again, the presence of Bolo at ringside was enough help, but towards the end of the match, ComPro Champion Anthony Jackson came out and made it 3-on-1. The odds were just too much and Rico gained a victory, something he hadn't seen in a long time. But that wasn't enough for the dasterdly trio. A triple attack on the fallen SI seemed to go on forever until SI2 came to the rescue with a chair. As both sides seemed intent on going at each other, Kitty thought she had the solution. She climbed up on the ring apron and told both teams that since they wanted to fight, she'd make a match: Sudden Impact vs. the Hall of Famers. And that match would start...immediately!
The fans thought this would be the point at which the masked brothers rallied and gained some revenge, but Kitty wasn't as careful with her words as she might have been. By only declaring that the match involved "the Hall of Famers", Kitty accidentally set up a 3-on-2 Handicap match and by the time she realised this, it was too late to do anything about it. So after having lost singles matches to this faction, it now appeared that Sudden Impact were going to lose the tag team match due to the numbers game. That didn't stop them from going full speed aheaad against the ComPro Champion and his cronies. But eventually, the fatigue and distraction was too much and Sudden Impact found themselves in a bad position. All seemed hopeless, until...
Out of the entrance came SI-X. At least, the person was wearing SI-X's mask, but the body that it was on was clearly that of FCW Tag Team Champion Romero Contreras. Contreras, who had earlier disposed of the Canadian Luchadore, dove into the ring and began swinging. And since Kitty had said it was "Sudden Impact" vs. the Hall of Famers, there was nothing that could be done to Romero any more than there was something that could be done about Jackson's participation in the match earlier. Romero did dispose of the SI-X match pretty quickly (he later said that it was impossible to see or breathe in that thing and he didn't understand how SI did it all the time), but Kitty still allowed him to compete, much to Jackson's chagrin. Obviously there was a reason for Jackson's dissatisfaction and that reason became apparant when the match ended, as Romero was pinning Jackson's shoulders to the mat for the 3-count. While it wasn't a match for the ComPro Title like he wanted, it still was another bit of proof that Romero could pin Jackson whenever the opportunity allowed.
Despite wearing the SI-X mask, there is no way possible that Romero could have been the original SI-X. In addition to the over-200 pound weight difference, SI-X's only opponent of record in ComPro was Romero Contreras on the first 2 weekly ComPro shows in 2007. SI-X disappeared after those shows, although he did make a brief reappearance during the lumberjacks in the Lumberjack match between Sudden Impact & Texas, Inc. He has not been seen since.
Sudden Impact proved that they were willing to go through whatever was necessary to come out victorious and that, given the right circumstances, nothing can put them out for good. Determination like that indicates that the might be recapturing the ComPro tag team gold sometime soon in the future.
