Sam Adonis recently talked about a career choice that felt smart at the time but ended up hurting him once the wrestling business shifted — especially after TKO/WWE bought Lucha Libre AAA World Wide. Adonis revealed that AAA offered him a contract about three years ago, but he turned it down. “It was not a bad deal, but it just wasn’t the right deal,” he explained. Both sides agreed to keep working together without paperwork because, at the time, “there was no reason to sign the contract.” Adonis was still being flown in regularly, keeping his “notoriety and position in Mexico,” and working big shows. He actually saw the lack of a contract as a positive, saying, “as a wrestler, it’s a great thing to be able to do business with a high-profile company without a contract.” Being trusted to work major events like “main eventing Triplemanía” made him feel respected. AAA didn’t need to “lock you in” to trust him, and Adonis felt that “reflects very well on the wrestler.” That outlook changed quickly once WWE and TKO entered the picture. “Once WWE and TKO bought AAA, I realized… I’m kind of removed from the package,” Adonis admitted. Because he never signed, “there’s no paperwork, there’s nothing tying me to Lucha Libre AAA,” and suddenly he was on the outside looking in. As AAA became “a TKO product and an intellectual property,” business sped up, merchandise moved, and Adonis realized there was “kind of nothing I could do about it.” Despite that, Adonis is still active in Mexico, wrestling “two or three dates a month” and continuing to work with AAA talent. He explained that he’s one of the few wrestlers cleared to do so because “I’m respected,” and AAA trusts him since “they know that these guys are safe in my hands.” Still, he admitted there’s no clear plan for him, saying, “I don’t know if there’s any plans for me to be signed up any time soon.” Looking at the bigger picture, Adonis said today’s wrestling world is completely unpredictable. “You almost can’t really compare a wrestler’s journey,” he said, adding that “none of the norms really apply anymore.” In hindsight, he called his AAA decision “the perfect example” of doing what he was taught was right, only to realize later that “it kind of bit me in the butt.”
On an episode of “The Wrestling Observer Radio”, Dave Meltzer said the reason Sting vs. The Undertaker didn’t happen in WWE was that Vince McMahon didn’t want it to happen.
WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase shared insight into the intense paranoia that “Macho Man” Randy Savage harboured regarding his then-wife, Miss Elizabeth, during their time in professional wrestling. Speaking on his “Everybody’s Got a Pod” podcast, DiBiase recounted how Savage’s protectiveness of Elizabeth influenced their backstage arrangements and interactions with other wrestlers. "He and Elizabeth would have their own dressing room, and I get that but here you are, and your wife is part of the show, and your wife’s a good-looking girl it’s kind of like if you love her enough that you married her, that must mean you trust her. But everything else Randy did said otherwise, it’s kind of like maybe he trusted her, but obviously he wouldn’t trust any of the wrestlers." DiBiase reflected on how Savage’s mistrust extended to the point of isolating Elizabeth, a move he saw as unnecessary. He contrasted Savage’s approach with how he would have handled a similar situation involving his own wife, Melanie, had she been involved in the wrestling business. "I get that but by the same token if you know who your wife is, I mean Melanie didn’t want to be a part of the show but if anything like that had ever been I had full trust in her. If anybody smarted off to her or said something off-key to her she’d come back to me and say, ‘Hey, so and so was running his mouth.’"
WWE Vault uploaded the complete World Class Championship Wrestling “Christmas Star Wars 1982” event featuring Ric Flair defending the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title against Kerry Von Erich in a Steel Cage Match.
Ric Flair was recently accused of being drunk in $500 Cameo videos for fans. One fan wrote on Cameo, “Yo I paid 600 bucks for ric to sit in a restaurant blasted out of his mind and say my dads name wrong I paid for him to say merry Christmas to my father buff .. he called him barf and just read the instructions word for word I’m am super disappointed I spent money on this I would’ve got someone who actually puts the effort in for 600 bucks to a regular person that’s a lot of money I’m not going to give a Christmas video to my father with his hero calling him barf!” Another fan wrote, “After spending nearly a GRAND to have someone my brother admired enough to have tattooed on him, wish him luck on his wedding. I would have expected Ric to at least browse through the notes ahead of time not read it word for word the first time and MOST definitely NOT tell him he’s making a mistake and to remain a ‘gf’ because he was so f*cked up he could barely speak right. What would’ve been a great gift ended up being ‘the worst thing he’s ever been gifted.’ Unbelievable!”
