NEWS
The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission will not be making a decision on intergender wrestling. They have passed off the decision to the state legislature. Things became an issue when the Commission threatened AEW with legal action if Nyla Rose ever wrestled there again.
A. J. Styles’ injury on “SmackDown” on October 4th was not a storyline and he is suffering from a mid-foot ligament sprain, otherwise known as Lisfranc Injury. Styles was wrestling Carmelo Hayes when he suffered the injury and the match was stopped and the referee gave the win to Hayes. WWE’s Jackie Redmond wrote on social media that Styles underwent an MRI this week to determine how bad the injury is. “I believe everything happens for a reason,” Styles wrote on X, promising fans to keep them updated on the situation. Styles was just returning on WWE television after four months away, with his last televised match coming at “Clash at the Castle” in June. He did work the non-televised live events in Japan and Europe in August but was kept off television since his title match loss to Cody Rhodes in Scotland. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Several WWE Legends and Hall of Famers appeared at WWE’s “Bad Blood” premium live event in Atlanta, GA on October 5th. Bill Goldberg and his son Cage, Jacqueline, Lilian Garcia, Booker T, Dallas Page, X-Pac, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Mickie James, and Scott Steiner all were shown on camera and acknowledged.
It certainly appeared that Gunther vs. Bill Goldberg is coming soon based on the angle at “Badd Blood” on October 5th.
Mideon has sparked debate in the wrestling world after questioning the iconic status of Sting. During an appearance on “Six Feet Under”, hosted by The Undertaker, Mideon shared his views on what defines an icon in the industry, drawing a distinction between a company icon and an industry-wide icon. While Mideon expressed his personal admiration for him, he challenged the widely accepted belief that Sting is a wrestling icon. "He wasn’t an icon. I love Sting, he’s one of my favorite opponents and everything, but he’s a WCW icon." This statement is controversial, as Sting is often recognized as one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling, with a career spanning over four decades starting in 1985 and ending at “AEW Revolution” on March 3, 2024. However, Mideon elaborated on his definition of an icon, explaining that it requires more than excelling within a single promotion. "You need to break through, you need to have Ole Anderson say, ‘You’re not gonna draw any f**king money. Get the hell out of here.’ And then you have the ability to call yourself an icon or something if you do it somewhere else." Mideon explained, his remarks suggest that true iconic status is earned through overcoming adversity and proving oneself across multiple wrestling landscapes. Sting’s legacy, though primarily associated with WCW, also includes notable tenures in TNA, WWE, and most recently AEW.
Robert Gibson was at the Mid South Fair in Memphis, TN last week and was asked who his five favorite tag teams to wrestle. He said they were The Midnight Express, Ole & Arn Anderson, Ivan & Nikita Koloff, Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude, and The Galaxians
Brian Damage of RingTheDamnBell.Wordpress.com wrote a story entitled “Top Five Geniuses in Wrestling not named McMahon” and among those listed were Dusty Rhodes, Gary Hart, and Eddie Gilbert. Honorable Mention was given to Jim Cornette and Dick Slater. To read the entire story, click here.
Oklafan congratulates Team Holy Hell (Terry Pantera, Mr. Wobble, & Father Padge) who have surpassed 6 months as BCW Tag Team Champions. Pantera & Wobble, then known as Holy Wobble, defeated Drake Gallows & Colton Kinnamon for the vacant titles on April 13, 2024 at an event in Guthrie. The team name was changed to Team Holy Hell on October 12, 2024 when Padge was added to the team and they cited "Freebird Rules" which means any combination of the 4 members may defend the titles.
Oklafan congratulates Wesley Crane who has surpassed 6 months as WFC Hometown Heroes Champion. He defeated Tommy Dean for the title on April 13, 2024 at an event in Broken Arrow.
Oklafan extends condolences to Ronnie Morton on the passing of his stepmother Dell on October 8th.
