The Widowmaker new #1 contender to the IZW Title

The Widowmaker new #1 contender to the IZW Title

Posted: Jan 21st 2008 By: mikeiles

Angel Williams is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the state of Oklahoma. While he has wrestled in several federations around the state, most of his success has come in the Mid-South Wrestling Alliance where he has held the MSWA Mid-South Heavyweight Title on 3 seperate occasions and the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles with Viper. With his successes have come numerous trips to Japan to wrestle. When he returned to the states, he decided to try his hand in Impact Zone Wrestling.

Williams returned to IZW on December 15th where he soundly defeated Scott Sanders. But Scott Sanders was not what Williams was hunting for. Williams was wanting a piece of IZW Tag Team Champion John Zorthos and it was if he was stalking his prey. Zorthos continued to run and hide, trying to use his power as IZW owner to keep Williams out of the company. IZW Commissioner Mike Iles officially signed the match for "Chaotic Christmas" much to the chagrin of Zorthos.

On December 22nd, the fans at The Impact Arena were at fever pitch. The card was stacked top to bottom with huge matches. One of the big matches the fans were clamoring for was Williams vs. Zorthos. When it came time for the match, Zorthos was announced first. Then after Johnny Z entered the ring, the ZorthoTron 420 started up and a video was shown of Angel Williams out cold in the hallway outside the locker room with a tire iron laying beside him. Zorthos technically won the match by forfeit or countout, whichever you prefer. Further investigation could not connect any member of Impact, Inc. to the attack on Williams.

On January 19th, IZW Commissioner Mike Iles began the evening with the announcement of three big matches. The first one announced was Angel Williams would finally get his hands on John Zorthos. The third match announced was a Gauntlet Battle Royal, with the winner receiving a title shot against IZW Heavyweight Champion Tommy Revell at a later date. Williams won the Battle Royal last eliminating Nathan Sensation then went on to defeat John Zorthos in convincing fashion.

Williams is now the #1 contender to the IZW Heavyweight Title. Can Tommy Revell hold off the challenge of The Widowmaker? More importantly, is The Widowmaker finished with Johnny Z?

Other News & Notes from the IZW show:
The second match announced by Commissioner Iles was between John O'Malley and Brad Michaels. After O'Malley was announced a video was show with Brad Michaels at home looking at the Oklafan.com website. Michaels said that he was looking at the site at the Title Histories section for IZW and saw that right under his name was the name of the current IZW Impact Division Champion Kenny Campbell, the man who defeated him. Michaels said that his focus was not on O'Malley but regaining his title. But using John Zorthos power as owner of IZW, he put IZW Champion Tommy Revell in the match instead. Michaels in fact was not at home and interfered in the non-title match. Eventually something is going to have to be done to end the Michaels-O'Malley feud.

After the Striker-Brian Grimm match, a video was shown with Kenny Campbell and Se7en. Campbell expressed his displeasure in Se7en's interference last week. Se7en explained it had nothing to do with Kenny, he just wanted to get his hands on Dexter Hardaway. After the video was over, IZW Commissioner Mike Iles came to the ring and seemed a bit upset. He began by giving the fans a history lesson. He said that when he got started in wrestling as a ring announcer, it was Dexter Hardaway that helped him and trained him. He said that he and Dexter had worked in several wrestling feds around the state and surrounding states. Iles then got more and more upset and he said that he and Dexter had travelled up and down "every damn highway in this state" going to and from wrestling shows. He stated that he had a hand in Dexter's departure from two other wrestling feds and IZW would be no different. He concluded his tirade by saying that Dexter Hardaway had been fired from IZW.

Striker's valet for the evening was his 16 year old daughter Bryanna. Apparently it was her birthday wish to accompany her dad to the ring. During intermission, Striker and some of the IZW stars lead the fans in singing Happy Birthday to her.
