NEWS
The NWA announced that EC3 over the weekend wrestling in France twice is now up to 30 successful defenses of the World’s Heavyweight Title, the most of any champion since Nick Aldis.

On his “Grilling JR” podcast, Jim Ross said he believes pay-per-views should be three hours long: “Somebody asked me that question on Sunday because the discussion was, are we serving too much barbecue? It’s hard for me to even equate that answer because I believe that…it’s a tough question. I believe that a pay-per-view should be three hours. Plenty of time. If you can’t conduct your business in three hours, you need to reevaluate your plan. At least, that’s my take on it. Those four and five-hour pay-per-views are daunting, to say the least. Somebody said, ‘Well, when you guys were down at WCW back in the day, how long were your pay-per-views?’ I said, ‘They were two hours and 50 minutes long.’ That’s a fact. So I think somewhere more in the two-hour and 50-minute range is better, or just [say] three hours, for simplicity’s sake, is more my wheelhouse. Now that I’m getting older, my attention span has been affected, so I think three hours is a nice starting point for a pay-per-view. That’s just me. You first gotta cater to your audience, and I think when you get past three, you’re gambling, and I don’t know if that’s a smart thing to do, gamble with your audience’s attention span. Because no matter what we say, the heavy sh*t is at the end. It’s called a main event, and I think that’s something that’s very important. You gotta cater to that audience, make sure they’re covered, make sure they like the order, and it’s just hard. It’s hard to figure that out, but I think somewhere in that three-hour range would be my preference.”

Shane Taylor was the guest on AEW Unrestricted this week. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here.

WWE uploaded a video on their new “WWE Vault” account showing previously unaired tryout matches with former Pro Wrestling NOAH star Takeshi Morishima from 2008. He faced Jamie Noble and Charlie Haas in separate matches. Click here to watch the matches.

While they opted to go a different route with his name, neither Bron Breakker nor WWE has ever hid Breakker’s family ties to the business. And even if he didn’t induct The Steiners into the Hall of Fame, work with his dad Rick in an NXT program, or use Uncle Scott’s Steiner Recliner — the signs are there. So it’s no surprise that Breakker’s often asked about possibly working with Rick and/or Scott more regularly as he advances in his WWE career. To his credit, his answer has always been the same. And it’s probably the same reason he didn’t want his wrestling name to be “Bron Steiner”. Here’s what Breakker said on “The Masked Man Show” in an interview promoting his shot at Intercontinental champion Sami Zayn this past Saturday at “Money in the Bank”: “I think for now, I’m kind of establishing myself and kind of going my own way. I think down the line, yeah, we have that, we have that as an option to do if we need it one day, to where we can get my dad and uncle involved in some form or fashion, so that’s always there.”

On Jeopardy Thursday night there was a category “1980s Amateur Wrestling” and the question was: “Rick and Scott Steiner were 1980s NCAA stars at Michigan before winning seven WCW titles in this event where partners touch and take turns.” The contestant correctly answered “What is tag team wrestling?”

Multiple industry insiders are reporting that Ric Flair's time in AEW seems to have come to an end prematurely. The Wooooo Energy Drink sponsorship that has been part of AEW TV broadcasts over the last several months has stopped as well and both that and Flair are not expected to feature on AEW television moving forward. AEW President Tony Khan announced in November of last year that Flair signed a multi-year deal with the company which enabled Flair to be used on TV as an on-screen character as well as his energy drink to appear during the shows. Flair has not been seen since Sting's farewell. It remains unclear who pulled the plug on the sponsorship deal less than a year since it was announced. In an interview months ago, Khan claimed that Flair is actually paying AEW to appear through his energy drink sponsorship and not the other way round.

Brian Damage of Ring the Damn Bell wrote a story entitled “Top Five: When you’re here you’re not family-Top Five Wrestling “Families” that were not related” and coming in at #1 were The Andersons (Ole Anderson & Gene Anderson).
