Jim Ross Comments On The Chances Of Shane McMahon Working In AEW

For the first time in decades, there is currently not a member of the McMahon family directly influencing a wrestling promotion. Vince McMahon is no longer affiliated with WWE, Stephanie McMahon is still married to Triple H but not actively working with the company, and Shane McMahon has been missing since WrestleMania 39. If we ever see a McMahon in wrestling again, there's a chance it's outside of WWE. There's even the slimmest of chances it happens in AEW.

So Crazy That It Might Work

While the odds of Vince showing up in AEW to fill the same role Eric Bischoff did in WWE 20 years ago are likely zero, Jim Ross recently weighed in on Shane potentially becoming All Elite during an episode of Grilling JR (H/T to Fightful).

It’s so crazy that it might work, depending on how it was positioned and how it was introduced. Shane called me the other day, he’s called me two or three times, which I really appreciate... Shane and Tony Khan being together, how would that work creatively, heck, who knows? Might be great. But in any event, that all depends on Shane and what he wants to do.

No suggestion from JR that this is something that is in the works or has even been suggested, but considering everything else we have seen happen in wrestling over the past few years, while it might sound crazy, it's certainly not inconceivable. Vince sold WWE last year, something no fan believed they'd ever see, so while a McMahon in AEW seems impossible, so have so many other things we've seen happen.

Vince And Shane's Strained Relationship

Shane has been absent from the wrestling scene for more than a year, and even when we did see him last, it was for an unannounced appearance that was over almost as soon as it started. Shane made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 39 for a match against The Miz. However, in the early stages of that match, Shane tore his quad while leapfrogging over Miz and his night was over. Snoop Dogg quickly stepped in for what led to a very memorable WrestleMania moment.

Until JR mentioned it, Shane in AEW was not something that ever occurred to me. There was evidence that Shane's relationship with his dad wasn't great towards the end of his sporadic appearances in WWE, starting with the Royal Rumble where Shane was rumored to have upset others in the match by forcing through ideas that made him look good. That said, considering Vince's position, the best way to get under his skin would be for Shane to return to WWE.
