LA Knight vs. AJ Styles contender's match set for next WWE SmackDown
Posted: Apr 13th 2024 By: Joseph Currier
Either LA Knight or AJ Styles will be the first challenger for new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes.
A number one contender's match between Knight and Styles will take place on SmackDown next Friday. The winner advances to challenge for Rhodes' title at WWE Backlash in Lyon, France on Saturday, May 4.
Knight vs. Styles is a rematch from WrestleMania 40. In that meeting, Knight got the win.
Knight and Styles both advanced to the number one contender's match with victories on tonight's SmackDown. There were two triple threat bouts on the show. Knight defeated Santos Escobar and Bobby Lashley in the first match. Styles then defeated Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens.
SmackDown ended with a confrontation between Knight and Styles. They talked trash to each other over who's going to win next week.
Next Friday's SmackDown is full of matches with title implications. New WWE Women's Champion Bayley will make her first title defense on the episode. Plus, there will be a four-way match to decide the first challengers for SmackDown Tag Team Champions Grayson Waller & Austin Theory.
