Sammy Guevara suspended by AEW

AEW has suspended Sammy Guevara.

Fightful reported that Guevara's suspension is related to his no-disqualification match vs. Jeff Hardy at the February 14 Rampage taping. Hardy was injured during the bout when Guevara's knee collided with his face on a shooting star press attempt.

The match was not stopped following the injury, however. Rather, Guevara gave Hardy his Go to Hell finisher before pinning him, which today's report stated was not proper concussion protocol.

Dave Meltzer has confirmed the news, saying that Guevara was told to pin Hardy and kept going with the key being the finishing move. Meltzer said it's unclear why the referee or doctor didn't just stop the match.

Guevara has wrestled once since the match against Hardy, a loss to Powerhouse Hobbs on the February 24 episode of Collision.

This is the 30-year-old's second time being suspended by the promotion. He was given a 30-day suspension in 2020 following insensitive comments he made on a 2016 podcast spreading on social media. Guevara also attended sensitivity training courses as a result.

Our Bryan Alvarez would later report that Hardy suffered a broken nose but was not concussed from the move. He hasn't wrestled since and there is currently no timetable for his return.

"The word from within AEW is that Jeff Hardy suffered a broken nose last night but not a concussion," Alvarez wrote to his subscribers on X.
