Afa the Wild Samoan To Train Mickey Rourke For "The Wrestler" Movie
Posted: Dec 29th 2007 By: CMBurnham
WXW would like to officially congratulate WWE Hall-Of-Famer Afa the Wild Samoan for being selected to train famed actor Mickey Rourke in preparation for his lead role in "The Wrestler", a major motion picture helmed by acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky ("The Fountain", "Requiem For A Dream"). Afa was hand-picked by Aronofsky and the film’s producers based on his unparalleled reputation as head trainer at his Wild Samoan Training Center, the breeding ground for WWE superstars such as Batista and Snitsky, as well as Billy Kidman and many more.
To assist in training Rourke for the rigors of pro wrestling, Afa has chosen the Wild Samoan Training Center's "Smooth" Tommy Suede and "Supreme" Lee Great to serve as assistant trainers. Afa and company were also selected to spearhead a similar training regimen for Nicholas Cage, who was previously attached to the role.
Mickey Rourke, a respected veteran of the big screen, has appeared in over 50 movies, including "9 ? Weeks", "The Rainmaker" and "Sin City". Known for the grit and realism that he brings to his characters, he actually embarked on an abbreviated, yet successful, career as a professional boxer in the early 90's. His work in "The Wrestler" is already highly anticipated, and with the help of his trainers, one can expect a finished product that will represent the truthful realities of the world of pro wrestling.
