Joyce Grable, a former NWA Women’s Tag Team Champion who wrestled in the 70s and 80s in various territories, has passed away.
It was confirmed on Friday evening that Grable, 70, had passed away. It was reported earlier this week that Grable had entered hospice care, with friends and family asking for cards and letters.
Grable entered pro wrestling in 1971 and was named after the first Joyce Grable, who had wrestled in the 60s and 70s. Along with Vicki Williams, she defeated Donna Christianello and Toni Rose in October of 1973 to win the NWA Women’s Tag Team titles for the first time. She would hold the title six times, two more times with Williams and also three times with Wendi Richter, who later became famous for a run in the WWE.
Aside from the NWA, Grable also wrestled in the WWWF, Stampede Wrestling, World Wrestling Council, and the AWA. She retired in 1991.
In 2013, she was diagnosed with leukemia. At last year’s Cauliflower Alley Club awards banquet, she gave a speech accepting their Courage award.
