NEWS
WWE recently applied for a trademark for the name “Trey Bearhill”. The name will be used by Tiller Bucktrot, who was signed to the WWE Performance Center in August 2022. Bucktrot is originally from Stroud, a former offensive lineman for the University of Tulsa football team and a member of the Muscogee Creek Tribe. He made his professional wrestling debut on March 24th against Tyler Bate.
Buff Bagwell made name for himself in WCW, where he found moderate success as part of the mid-card scene. Bagwell eventually debuted in WWE, where he really did not get to do much at all. Bagwell also has a history of substance abuse problems, among other things. This has made fans concerned for his well-being, for a good reason. While things were going well for him, it appears Bagwell was recently arrested for speeding and DUI. WWE also has a policy of helping former talent go through rehab, should they need it. Buff Bagwell had substance abuse issues as well. In fact, Bagwell previously said that WWE rejected his request for rehab. Last year, Buff Bagwell revealed that he had crossed over 100 days of sobriety. Naturally, fans were elated at this positive level of development for the pro wrestling veteran. Unfortunately, things have not been going well for Buff Bagwell as he was arrested earlier this month. The former WCW and WWE star was charged with speeding and driving under the influence of drugs. In 2021, Buff Bagwell started a podcast called “Rebuilding Buff.” The podcast ran into some controversy after the former star mentioned that WWE had turned him down for rehab.
Jim Ross has been sidelined since the premiere episode of “AEW Collision” on June 17th. Before the show, he suffered a fall, and the incident impacted his performance. Ross stated that he would be taking some time away to heal, and he later revealed that he likely suffered a concussion. He has said he does not have a date for his return to AEW, but he hopes to be back for “AEW All In”. Speaking on his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross commented on his health while he discussed his visit to Oklahoma. He noted that he is making some progress. “It’s been good. The chiropractor visit has been very well-timed. I got another one later today. I’m sore as hell. I feel like I got beat up, with just pushing and prodding and twisting and so forth. But I’ve gotten some good, timely relief on the sciatica, which is a bitch. Those of you who have had to experience know exactly what I’m taking about. I went like three days, I couldn’t walk. I crawled or I limped, or I pulled myself here or there. I got me a walking stick, goddamn, I hate that. So anyhow, it’s better. My radiation wound seems to be healing, but it’s just so slow. They’re very concerned about infection, which I don’t want to get that infected because that’s not good business. So I’m on some heavy ass antibiotics. One more treatment today, then I’ll fly back to Jacksonville on Thursday as we’re talking here today, and move on. So it’s all good," Ross said.
After making transphobic remarks toward Impact Wrestling's Gisele Shaw at “WrestleCon in April, it wasn't expected that Rick Steiner would be appearing at the convention going forward. That changed last week when it controversially announced that Steiner would be appearing at the next “WrestleCon”, set for Detroit during “SummerSlam” weekend. The backlash to the announcement proved swift, and Steiner's appearance was canceled shortly after. On the latest episode of "Kliq This," Kevin Nash, a long-time friend of Steiner's who worked with him in WCW and had previously commented on the events after they occurred, gave his thoughts on the situation, particularly the idea of “WrestleCon” welcoming Steiner back. While Nash understands where some, including vendor Tony Hunter who booked Steiner's appearance, was coming from, he doesn't believe the idea to bring Steiner back was smart at all. "I just don't think ... it just wasn't thought out," Nash said. "I don't think there was any malice in it. I just...they just [went] 'Hey, can Rick come?' 'Yeah, sure.' Because there was an attempt ... I can see why it happened. I'm not saying in any form or fashion that it was — I wouldn't have even tried to open the door, with it happening at a ‘WrestleCon’ where he was kicked out of, and then turn around and come back to ‘WrestleCon’? I wouldn't have done it," he continued, "but Tony is like a really sweet human being, and he's the kind of person that believes that everyone should be given a second chance. That's who Tony Hunter is." As Nash continued to discuss the situation, it became clear that being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and his long-standing friendship with Steiner left him very conflicted. "I have people that are involved in her [Gisele Shaw's] life," Kevin Nash added. "I have several friends that care deeply about that human being. I am in no way f*****g [defending Rick]. I just think ... there's a scene in 'Against All Odds,' and f*****g James Woods and Jeff Bridges, they've been fighting over Rachel Ward this whole f*****g movie. And she just looks at Jeff Bridges at one point goes 'Can it just for one f*****g time not be life and death?' Both these guys are pulling at her," he continued, "and it's just ... I feel that way sometimes. Can a human being make a mistake? I've known f*****g Robbie [Rick's real name] Steiner for 30 years. He is a decent man. He doesn't ... I don't think he's ever ... he's just not ... I don't know what f*****g set that off. I don't know why it happened. It was wrong. But you could name 50 other people ... when I heard that, I said 'Robbie? What?' It was such a horrible f*****g venue. That didn't help, man." Nash, who was at “WrestleCon” but not on the floor during the incident, does believe that if he had been around at that time, the situation would've been resolved promptly — and appropriately. "If I was in the convention, on the convention floor, I would've known f*****g 30 minutes after the s**t went down, tops," Nash said. "And I would've personally f*****g walked over there ... and that would've made a difference in that whole situation. When it first went down, me walking over there and pulling him aside would've been night and day of how all of this played off."
Tuesday night’s episode of “Dark Side of the Ring” on Bam Bam Bigelow averaged 185,000 viewers on Vice TV. The rating in the 18-49 demo was a 0.05. The viewership was up from the 178,000 viewers that last week’s Abdullah the Butcher episode drew, but the demo rating was down from a 0.06.
A24, the company behind Von Erich family movie “The Iron Claw”, announced that the much-anticipated film will be released this Christmas. IMDB.com lists the exact release date of December 22nd. Written and directed by Sean Durkin, “The Iron Claw” follows "the story of the Von Erichs, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a great impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day." The movie, with a budget of around $21 million, was filmed in Baton Rouge, LA and features Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, and Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich. Other notable names in the cast include M. J. F. as Lance Von Erich, Aaron Dean Eisenberg as Ric Flair, Ryan Nemeth as Gino Hernandez, and Chavo Guerrero, Jr. as The Sheik (Ed Farhat).
