Wrestling Legend Angry With WWE Over Dominik Mysterio’s Nickname

Wrestling Legend Angry With WWE Over Dominik Mysterio’s Nickname

The “Dirty” nickname that WWE has given Dominik Mysterio has upset a wrestling legend that used to work for the company.

Over the past few weeks, WWE has decided to call The Judgment Day’s youngest group member, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio. It hasn’t gotten to the point where it’s his official name like Seth “Freakin” Rollins, but WWE has been calling him “Dirty Dom” a lot.

As WWE fans know, when the company decides to give somebody a new name or a nickname, they tend to drive it home strongly by saying it repeatedly. Dominik’s on-screen girlfriend, the WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, recently had “Dirty Dom” written on her face in small letters too.

Calling somebody “Dirty” in professional wrestling isn’t something new. A former wrestler named “Dirty” Dick Slater, who passed away in 2018, used the moniker for most of his career. Another man has used “Dirty” for most of his career as well – “Dirty” Dutch Mantell.

In WWE, Dutch Mantell was known as Zeb Colter and also Uncle Zebekiah earlier in his career. However, he was most known as “Dirty” Dutch Mantel when he wrestled, worked as a manager and was involved in other promotions. In fact, he started using the name “Dirty” in 1980, which is 43 years ago. In other words, he’s been using it for a long time.

While appearing on Sportskeeda’s SmackTalk, Dutch was angry about WWE giving the “Dirty” moniker to Dominik Mysterio just like that.

“Hey, thanks, Paul. Thanks, Triple H. Thanks, Vince. Thanks, Endeavor. If you’re going to steal, at least why didn’t you put a call?”

“Just a heads-up call. ‘Hey, we want to call him this because he (Dominik Mysterio) needs something.’”

“Dom, you got a hell of a name to live up to, so I hope you’re up for the task. I’m pissed.”

Dominik Mysterio and The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor & Damian Priest picked up the win on Raw this past Monday when they beat Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in the main event.
