Eric Bischoff: I'd Like To See Sting Retire, He Might Not Get A Bigger Crowd Than Wembley Stadium

Eric Bischoff shares his thoughts on Sting's potential retirement.

Sting, 64, previously revealed that his AEW contract will be up at some point in 2023. He continues to wrestle somewhat regularly for AEW; he teamed up with Darby Allin and Tetsuya Naito to defeat Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 25. At the post-show media scrum, Sting stated that he had not decided on a date for his retirement, but he didn't expect it to be at AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking with co-host Conrad Thompson on 83 Weeks, Bischoff was asked about Sting's comments at the scrum and whether he thinks the legend will retire this year. Bischoff stated that he didn't think he would, as he believed Tony Khan could convince Sting to stick around. He then noted that he wants to see Sting retire at AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium, as he may not get a bigger sendoff than that.

“No, I don’t think we will [see him retire this year] because I think Tony will convince Sting to stick around a little longer if that’s what Tony wants. I understand that. Personally, I’d like to see Sting retire. First of all, he’s gonna be in front of 65-75,000 people. If you’re gonna put a period at the end of the last sentence in the last chapter in your career, go out big. I don’t think that he’ll get an opportunity, maybe, but I don’t know that he’ll get an opportunity to go out in front of a crowd that big. That would be special. If I was Sting, that’s what I would want for my career. But then again, Sting’s doing it because Sting loves to perform. He loves to get out there, and it’s hard to give that up," Bischoff said.

During the podcast, Bischoff also praised the match between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Click here to see what he had to say.
