Impact Wrestling shared a video of every match from Mickie James’ “Last Rodeo” leading up to her match this past Friday at Impact's "Hard to Kill" pay-per-view. You can view the video by clicking here.
Mickie James told the "Refin’ It Up" podcast that she’d like Trish Stratus to induct her into the WWE Hall of Fame and Lisa Marie Varon (AKA Victoria/Tara) to induct her into the Impact Hall of Fame. She said "I think for WWE, it has to be Trish Stratus. I think if there was no Trish Stratus, if it wasn't that opportunity for my first run of how I was introduced to the WWE audience with Trish and the magic, like people wouldn't have cared 20 years later. It really set the stage. I just think back to all the times I was supposed to debut before that and it didn't happen, and what a blessing in disguise it was and I didn't see it then, but I think that it would be her for WWE. For Impact, it would have to be probably Lisa Marie, I think, because I had the Cage Match with her and Madison (Rayne). That whole story was like, they were my big feud when I first walked in there and I feuded with them for months when I first came to Impact as I was creating and cultivating 'Hardcore Country'. Lisa is my sister. We were friends at WWE, but we really became sisters there at Impact, and even now doing our show together, like I love her so much. I think she's been so influential in my career, but just also behind the scenes. I'm grateful for her."
Sting recently mentioned that he will be retiring soon and that he plans to have Darby Allin be part of his retirement match.
Sammy Guevara’s vlog has returned and can be seen by clicking here.
Those attending Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's "Battle of Los Angeles" on January 8th got a huge surprise as The Jericho Appreciation Society, lead by the Coho himself, Chris Jericho, showed up unannounced to everyone singing "Judas" and even participated in a match. Jericho teamed up with Sammy Guevara, Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker to take on former Ring of Honor World champion Jonathan Gresham, Evil Uno, Kevin Blackwood, Michael Oku, and SB KENTo in a 10-man Tag Team Match. The JAS had Jake Hager, Tay Melo, and Anna Jay in their corner as well. Jericho picked up the victory for his team after hitting the Judas Effect on Blackwood. After the match, Jericho addressed the crowd and likened PWG as the modern day ECW with the same passion from fans and the same “lack of guardrails in the f*cking front row.” Jericho said that it’s also the same great atmosphere where fans give young wrestlers a chance to become the next generation of main event wrestlers. “So we thank you for supporting, we thank you for having us, we see you again...maybe,” Jericho said as the JAS saluted the crowd and left.
Actor Paul Walter Hauser, who this week won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in "Black Bird", got into some trouble on "AEW Rampage" on Wednesday. Hauser, who also plays the role of Stingray on the hit Netflix series "Cobra Kai", is a big wrestling fan and in the latest series of "Cobra Kai", he can be heard singing the Jericho theme song "Judas". He was being interviewed in the ring by Renee Paquette when he was first interrupted by Danhausen, and then by Sunjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Jarrett. Hauser ripped on Jarrett and company before slapping Dutt but things got ugly from there as the heels showed no mercy. Lethal knocked Hauser out with a punch and then Jarrett smashed a guitar on his head, leaving him laying in the ring. Lethal then took the Golden Globe but before any more damage could be done, Orange Cassidy and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) came out to save the day.
Johnny Gargano, Dexter Lumis, Rick Steiner, and Braun Strowman were guests on "The Bump" last Wednesday.
The WWE landscape underwent a significant shift on January 10th when Stephanie McMahon announced her departure from the company. Just a few days prior, Vince McMahon returned to the WWE Board of Directors. Since then, rumors have circulated that WWE is about to be sold to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. That has not been confirmed to be true. Ric Flair recently discussed Vince’s WWE return on his "To Be The Man" podcast. “I’m personally glad he’s back. I don’t begin to know. There’s only a few people that do know and I’m not one of them. I honestly believe that he lives and breathes the business and he just said to himself, ‘I own all this stuff. It’s mine. I built it. I want back in’, and I don’t blame him. Thirty years of being on TV on RAW. Think about that. Thirty years. I mean, it’s unbelievable. I hope he walks out that door in Philadelphia, busts the door open, stands there, and struts down that aisle and says, ‘I’m back.’ The place would go crazy. I guarantee it. That will be a rating.”
The "Ric Flair’s Last Match" event took place on July 31, 2022, in Nashville, TN. Flair & his son-in-law Andrade el Idolo vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal (w/ Karen Jarrett) headlined the event at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Flair was victorious in the bout as he forced Jarrett to submit with the figure four. The event was a success as it reportedly drew a gate of over $448,000 and pulled in over 24,000 buys on pay-per-view. Flair recently talked about wanting to wrestle again on his "To Be The Man" podcast. “I’m begging to do it again. I’m begging because I’ve told 100 people, ‘How do I forget to drink water all day long?’ That’s all that happened to me. You saw me. I drank five beers right after. I can think of a lot of things I’ve screwed up and matches and, you know, things you would change. I just know that could’ve been golden. You know, I just happened to be dehydrated. I don’t know how I could’ve made that mistake because you know how much work I put in with Lethal. We had everything figured out, I mean, and we had so much more to do. God, it would have been great.”
