A. J. Styles will spend a couple of months out on the sidelines as he confirmed that he has broken his ankle. The injury took place at the non-televised live event in Hershey, PA on December 29th during a Mixed 6-Person Tag Team Match. "Just want you guys to know that I’m ok. Broken ankle is what I’m dealing with," Styles wrote on Twitter. "No surgery, this just takes some time to recover. This will be the longest I've ever been out of the ring. Thanks for the prayers and get well wishes." A broken ankle usually takes up to eight weeks to recover which means that Styles is definitely out of the "Royal Rumble" and will take several weeks more before he can step back in the ring. Styles has been relatively lucky in his career avoiding major injuries throughout the years.

Free matches added to WWE’s YouTube this past week include A. J. Styles, Finn Balor, & Liv Morgan vs. Judgment Day (Edge, Damian Priest, & Rhea Ripley) in a 6-Person Mixed Tag Team Match from "Hell In a Cell 2022", Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar from "WrestleMania 33", Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly from "WWE TLC 2011", and Goldberg vs. Hollywood Hogan from the July 6, 1998 edition of "WCW Monday Nitro".

The highly-anticipated Ric Flair documentary titled "Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair" is now streaming on Peacock. Produced by WWE Network Documentaries, the brand-new documentary is described by The Nature Boy as "the most accurate depiction" of his life to date and features sit-down interviews with the likes of Triple H, Mike Tyson, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Booker T, Shawn Michaels, etc. The documentary will tackle Flair's most controversial stories as well as his battle with death a few years ago. The 16-time world champ has spent his entire life wrestling to entertain the public but stories like the infamous Plane Ride from Hell left a dent in his legacy and Flair will set the record straight in this documentary. “Very few people have professional careers as storied as Ric Flair,” said Rod Aissa, EVP of Unscripted Content for NBCUniversal. “We can’t wait to give Peacock audiences this revealing, in-depth and often raw look into the life of one of sports and wrestling’s most controversial icons.”

Ric Flair and Gerald Brisco were reportedly backstage at the December 30th "WWE Friday Night SmackDown".

Regarding the December 28th Lucha Libre AAA World Wide show in Acapulco, Mexico they were listing Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo defending the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles against Octagon, Jr. & Lady Shani and Komander & Sexy Star. Obviously that didn’t happen as Melo was booked for "AEW Dynamite" in Broomfield, CO that same night. The visa issue that kept Guevara & Melo from the last tapings in Mexico where they were to defend has been cleared up. However, AEW had an illness that changed original plans for a women's match on Wednesday so last week they set up Melo & Anna Jay vs. Willow Nightingale & Ruby Soho, which means Melo was pulled from the AAA event. There was a mixed tag title match but Guevara & Melo were stripped of the titles and new champions were crowned.

Abismo Negro Jr. and Flammer are your new AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champions. AEW’s Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo were scheduled to defend their titles in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match at AAA's Noche de Campeones (Night of Champions) event on December 28th, against Octagón Jr. & Lady Shani and the team of Komander & Sexy Star II. However, Guevara & Melo were double booked as AEW announced Melo & Anna Jay vs. Willow Nightingale & Ruby Soho for the "New Year’s Smash" edition of Dynamite, after AAA’s original announcement, and the couple did not appear in Mexico for AAA. Konnan appeared before the match and it was announced that the titles were declared vacant due to Guevara & Melo missing the show. Abismo & Flammer were then added to the match to replace Guevara & Melo, and they ended up winning the vacant titles. This was the third AAA show that Guevara & Melo missed. It was noted on a recent edition of "Wrestling Observer Radio" that AAA was looking to strip the AEW stars of the titles due to repeated issues surrounding their inability to make the AAA dates. It was noted that visa issues caused Guevara & Melo to miss their last title defense, but those issues were resolved. It was indicated that AEW changed plans for the women’s tag team match at "Dynamite" due to a wrestler suffering from some sort of illness, and Melo was booked as the replacement, despite AAA already announcing her for their TV taping. This is the first title reign for Abismo & Flammer. Guevara & Melo won the titles back at "Triplemania XXX: Monterrey" on April 30th by winning a 4-Way Tag Team Match that also included Komander & Sexy Star II, Maravilla & Látigo, plus the former champions Los Vipers. Melo & Guevara held the straps for 241 recognized days. Despite the lengthy title reign, Guevara & Melo only defended the titles on two occasions. They retained over Dante Martin & Skye Blue on the August 12th "Rampage" show, then retained over Ortiz & Ruby Soho during the "AEW All Out" pre-show on September 4th. Guevara & Melo have not publicly commented on being stripped of the AAA titles as of this writing.

Eric Bischoff discussed his initial relationship with Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross upon entering WCW and firing him on a recent episode of "83 Weeks". Here are the highlights: Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross were mentors to him: “Both Ross and Tony were professional. I didn’t get the impression that they had a feeling about me one way or the other. I was there to do a job. I worked for Jim technically. I reported to Jim Ross. Jim was very matter of fact with me in his communication, again, not supportive not trying to pull the rug out from underneath me. I would say he was just middle of the road professional. Tony, my first impression of Tony was this cat didn’t like me much. I don’t know what I did to him or what he thinks I’m going to do to him. Tony was almost he was like a cat. You know when you have a cat sometimes you know this cat really likes me, but other times they don’t give a s*** about you. A cat is a cat not like a dog. Tony was like a cat he was indifferent. Just very indifferent. That changed over time and I think I learned fairly early on Tony wasn’t, at that point, a very outgoing person. He was a workhorse. He worked like a dog and he was super professional. But, when it came to a conversation or chemistry it wasn’t there. At first I thought ‘wow, this cat doesn’t want me here at all.’ That wasn’t it that was just Tony and I learned that over time.” Firing Jim Ross: “Look, for better or worse J. R. believed in Bill Watts. They had a long standing relationship. J. R. probably owed a good part of his success and career to Bill Watts. I haven’t talked to him about this, but I’m guessing. J. R. felt about Bill Watts much like how I felt and still feel about Verne Gagne. Somebody gives you that opportunity that changes your life forever or gives you an opportunity that has a dramatic impact on your life in a positive way, how are you not loyal to that person? Even through their faults. I am. That’s my nature and I would imagine Jim is much the same way. Plus, Jim had a lot of the same perspectives and point of view creatively and how wrestling should be run as Bill Watts. Certainly Jim had his own as well, but there was a lot more in common with Bill Watts than with me for example or others. That was part of it. The other part was because they were so joined at the hip because of their previous relationship that everybody knew about because of Jim’s support for Watts in WCW during a time when supporting Bill Watts within Turner Broadcasting was not a healthy career choice. But, Jim was already there. Jim tied himself very closely to Bill Watts. It worked until it didn’t. Once Bill Watts got fired, in my opinion, I never talked to Bill Shaw about this or anybody else and I didn’t even know for sure that Jim was trying to get the job was executive producer. I didn’t find that out until well afterwards same Tony. I didn’t know Tony was trying to get the job. I think Jim was guilty by association. When the s*** hit the fan with Watts, Jim was standing there to get splattered with it first.”

Jeff Jarrett shared thoughtson Twitter about former TNA announcer Don West who passed away on December 20th. He said “When I received the text from Don’s wife, Terri, earlier today on his passing I had an overwhelming feeling of mixed emotions—so happy and relieved for him that he was out of pain and his cancer was gone; but, the finality of his death was so dark and it hurt. We FaceTimed just a few days ago-and because of his situation it’s the only conversation that I’ve ever had with him that I got to do all the talking and I’m sure he hated that! We reminisced, laughed, and I got the final opportunity to tell him I loved him and that I will see him again one day!”

Abyss shared his thoughts about Don West's passing. He said “Rest in Peace @DonWestDeals. Don was a major part of my career. Don always had a smile on his face, a good story to tell, a solid sports outcome to predict, and was always so happy and treated everyone who he came in contact with like a friend. Good bye Don. See you down the road."

Gail Kim posted a clip of the late Don West high-fiving Mike Tenay. She said “This is the epitome of what Don West was like all the time. His energy, positivity and love for wrestling was always shining when we worked together. What a voice, what a man….. you will always be missed Don. Today is a sad day #RIPDonWest”
