NEWS
Mick Foley explained why he’s no longer on Twitter: "It would be easy to blame the atmosphere on Twitter. That was part of it, but since day one, I had trouble using Twitter in moderation, so it's mostly on me. I struggled with it. I think a lot of people do. Then you get to where you're spending hours a day just looking at everything on there, and as it became progressively more divisive, I began to feel like I was swimming in a pool full of turds. One turd, you can dodge that turd. Right? You can still enjoy the crystal clear water. But at a certain point, when being on Twitter just becomes an exercise in dodging turds, it's time to get out of the water and that's what I did. Foley said he may come back to Twitter at some point: I may come back on after the New Year. I may let you guys (AdFreeShows) run the account. I mean, I worked really hard to get up to 2 million. I really did, and it was a struggle over time. I posted stuff that I thought was interesting and sometimes funny, sometimes relevant, but it just feels like a filthy place for me to be and spend so much time. But maybe after the New Year, it'll come back under new ownership".

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan discussed wanting to do more AEW live events in 2023: "I think, in 2023, I would love to expand our content, and we have such a great roster. I think I can utilize the people on the roster even more, and there’s ways we can do that by expanding the content, doing more shows, and I do think live events is something we could do more of, and we have the potential to do that. We have the wrestlers, and we have the interest around the country, and there’s markets that we’re just now hitting for the first time in years. We have that capacity. That’s one of the reasons I wanna do more live events and increase our live event revenue, bring it up because that’s one of the reasons I brought in somebody who has such great experience there in Jeff Jarrett, who has worked in the office of, I guess at least four promotions, off the top of my head, if not more and wrestled in countless promotions. So certainly Jeff’s experiences are so valuable in that area. So as we expand live events, I think Jeff, with his experience there, will be a great person to help grow that part of the company, in addition to being a great wrestler."

Jeff Jarrett discussed his match at AEW Full Gear during his latest My World with Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett and Jay Lethal lost to Sting and Darby Allin in a wild match at the show. Here is what Jarrett had to say: “This past weekend was surreal. It was really, really surreal. Prudential Center, 10, 11, or 12,000 fans, I don’t know, but it was full. We were late on the card. I was curious to see where the placement was going to be of me and Stinger and the tag. I’ll tell you one thing. Darby puts it in another gear from the time he comes through the curtain. Jay Lethal my man, his mother, his father, I mean, I could talk through a whole podcast on this weekend. His mother and father were there. His brother was there. I met his mother years ago in Wayne, New Jersey. She chased me around the ring when baby boy Lethal was taking on the King of the Mountain. At the very last minute, the Queen, Karen, and my man Codes (his son Cody), they flew up. They weren’t planning on going because we got WrestleCade this weekend. But it’s all kind of surreal. They were there. When Stinger turned around in the middle of the ring and it was just me and him in the ring, that is a moment. Life is about moments. This industry is certainly about moments. But that is a moment that is etched in my brain. I don’t lose sight of the gratitude coming out of it, both of us, our stage of our career, 24 years from our first locking them up in WCW and Tony Schiavone, our podcast mate, him on the call, pretty special.”

Mick Foley recently talked about a wide range of topics on his Foley is Pod, available via AdFreeShows. During it, the WWE Hall Of Famer gave his thoughts on former NWA Champion Nick Aldis., who has been in the news recently for publicly detailing his release from NWA and criticizing NWA owner Billy Corgan. Here are the highlights: Aldis’ decision: “Nick Aldis kind of was “NWA wrestling.” He was the guy that was in the first show of what would become AEW, ALL IN. He was in that main event. I don’t know if you know this about Nick, and I hope this is me speaking to Nick specifically. He is one of the funniest guys in a live setting I have ever met. And when I suggested he try to work that into his character, he was taken aback! I was like, Nick! You’re really good at this.” Aldis’ Flair impersonation: “I’m telling you, I’ve been around a long time. We were in Australia for House of Hardcore. It’s funny because it’s House of Hardcore and we’re doing a show at a children’s amusement park, and we’re doing our signings (laughing) under a ride that says “Little Beaut Toot.” And Nick Aldis does a phenomenal Flair. (Imitating Aldis imitating Flair) “Brother, I have done it all! Raleigh, North Carolina! Little Beaut Toot Toot!” He just had me going. At a certain point, I was like “Nick you gotta stop, my back’s hurting me!” I can’t even sign autographs I’m laughing so hard. He kind of does Ric as if he’s one-part Ric Flair, and one-part John Wayne. It’s so good. Some of the stuff — he gets into some of the TNA stuff, which is personal, I don’t want to spoil it.” Wanting to see Aldis as “himself”: “The headline of the day is: Mick Foley Believes Nick Aldis has a much bigger future as himself, rather than the stoic representative of the National Wrestling Alliance. I admire that he’s doing that, I think he was doing what he thought he should do to add prestige to that title.” Aldis being more interesting backstage than on TV: “But I’m telling you! He’s a wildcard in that he’s like Brad Armstrong, in the sense that behind the scenes he’s more interesting than he is on-camera. I’ve been in situations where I’m like the sixth or seventh most interesting guy backstage, but then I was able to turn it up a notch [in the ring] when some of the guys could not. And I just think that Nick is a guy who could go to another level, and maybe he needs to leave NWA to do that. I think the world of him and Mickie [James], and I think he’s going to land on his feet.”

Another actor has been added to the cast of The Iron Claw. Deadline reported on November 22 that Aaron Dean Eisenberg will portray WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair in the upcoming A24 film, The Iron Claw, which follows the Von Erich family’s legacy in the industry. It was noted that Eisenberg’s role as Flair is expected to be a cameo as Flair battled Kerry Von Erich for the NWA World Championship. Eisenberg joins Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Jeremy Allen White, Maura Tierney, Lily James, and AEW World Champion MJF as cast members that have been announced so far. The film, which is being written and directed by Sean Durkin, is currently in production. Tessa Ross, Angus Lamont, and Juliette Howell are also producing the film for House Productions, while Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen of Access Entertainment are working on it as well.

PWInsider reported that the next slate of WWE Biography episodes set to air in January 2023 include The Iron Sheik, Kane, Randy Orton, Paige, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, and Jesse Ventura.

WWE has trademarked the term ‘Valhalla’, in reference to the Viking Raiders and Sarah Logan.

Jeff Jarrett made his return to WWE in May of this year, working backstage with the company. He was hired as Senior Vice President of Live Events. However, he was then fired, but his unemployment didn’t last long. Road Dogg was hired back by WWE, and he took over Jeff Jarrett’s role in the company. While speaking on the latest episode of ‘Oh You Didn’t Know,’ Road Dogg apologized to Jeff Jarrett for taking his job. “Look, you can be doing your job, and one day someone not like it, and the next day you’re not there. [Laughs] Bless his heart, I’m so sorry. It hurts me when you say that. But I bet it hurts him a hell of a lot more. [Laughs] I’m so sorry Jeff.” –Road Dogg on Oh You Didn’t Know? Jeff Jarrett is currently working in AEW and even competed on Saturday’s Full Gear PPV. Tony Khan has plans for Double J to help with future AEW live events. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for him. If anything, it seems that Road Dogg and Jeff Jarrett are doing just fine in their current gigs.

Mick Foley recently talked about a wide range of topics on his Foley is Pod, available via AdFreeShows including the edict of having no wives or girlfriends backstage at WWE events in 1996. Here are the highlights: The first time he brought his kids backstage at a WWE show: “She didn’t feel completely comfortable, and that actually stems back to July of ‘96 when I brought my kids on the road, I think, for the second time. In fairness to WWE, when I brought them to Savannah Georgia, my kids cried for ninety minutes (laughs). I had the talk with them outside, they’re all dressed up, Dewey’s in his tie, Noelle’s in her dress. “You’re gonna be good for Daddy, right?” They went in there and had the fit where the mucus is coming out of the nose and you just can’t stop it.” A road agent making his family wait in a bathroom with open sewage: “But nonetheless, that had been a few weeks earlier, and now I’m bringing them to New England. I can’t remember if they were in Portland with me; but they were definitely there the next night in Bangor. The agent — and I don’t need to name the agent — may have been overplaying his hand by not allowing my family backstage. And ushered them into a bathroom with what appeared to be an open sewage line. And why I didn’t stand up right then and say “this doesn’t fly,” I don’t know. I was probably thinking, “I’ve only got a few months in this company, I’m getting a push, I don’t want to rock the boat.” His wife joining him in New York for her birthday: “It’s one thing to do that to me in July… but by November? Kind of a big deal. Working my fourth Pay-Per-View with the Undertaker. There’s an edict “no wives backstage.” So my wife is celebrating her birthday. We take a trip together to New York to celebrate. She’s by herself. She’s going to be going to the show by herself. The edict comes down, “no wives.” I appealed — even asked Jim Ross. I was told that was the rule. So now my wife’s on her own, all day.” Seeing other wives, girlfriends, and women backstage: “And when I get to the show, I’m at the building at one. To me, there’s no reason why my wife can’t be there until six, and then find her seat. But that’s not the case. So if the edict is being followed by everyone, that’s one thing. But if you show up, and you see other wives? Girlfriends? A companion who’d, uh, known the wrestler for 24 hours or less? That’s a problem.”

The Bump held a live episode at Guy Fieri’s Tequila Cocina in Boston this Saturday before Survivor Series. AJ Styles, Shotzi, and Austin Theory were guests on the show.

Jim Ross commented on Jungle Boy now going by his real name Jack Perry more often: “He can't be Jungle Boy forever. This kid has such a bright future, in my opinion, he's working hard, getting stronger, filling out. He's young. I had a real nice moment with him, his mom, and his sister after the show. They were fawning over him, as they should, and I told his mom how proud I was of him and I think that meant a lot to them. He does mean a lot to me. I think he's a nice kid. He was well-raised, good parenting, she has a hell of a talented son.”

On the latest edition of his My World With Jeff Jarrett podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW Director of Business Development Jeff Jarrett spoke about his matchup at this past weekend’s Full Gear pay-per-view, where Double-J and Jay Lethal took a loss to the dynamic duo of Sting and Darby Allin. Check out highlights from the podcast in the highlights below. On his Full Gear match and how Darby Allin really brought it: This past weekend was surreal. It was really, really surreal. Prudential Center, 12,000 fans, I don’t know, but it was full. We were late on the card. I was curious to see where the placement was gonna be with me and old Stinger and the tag. I’ll tell you one thing. Darby puts it in another gear from the time he comes through the curtain. On sharing the ring with Sting again: When old Stinger turned around in the ring and it was just me and him in the ring….. Lot of moments. Life is about moments. This industry’s certainly about moments, but that is a moment that is etched in my brain. I don’t lose sight of the gratitude coming out of it, both of us, at our stage of our career. 24 years from our first [time] locking them up in WCW, and Tony Schiavone, our podcast-mate, him on the call. Pretty special."

16-time world champ Ric Flair announced on his latest To Be The Man podcast that he will be at the 2023 Royal Rumble in San Antonio, although he did not specify in what role. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer quipped that "they didn't say don't tell anybody" when he revealed the news on his podcast. In addition, Flair also said that he has been invited to the 30th anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw which will take place a week before the Royal Rumble in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. "I've been invited and it's a f*cking big deal," Flair said. "I'm on it, hell yea are you kidding me? 30 years!" Flair and WWE are working on a two-hour documentary where Flair got to defend himself and tell the real story, at least according to him, on what happened on the infamous Plane Ride from Hell.

Mick Foley recently talked about a wide range of topics on his Foley is Pod, available via AdFreeShows. During it, the WWE Hall Of Famer discussed why Jonah Hill as guest GM for Raw never happened. This would’ve happened in November 20211, but his appearance was later canceled and didn’t make air. “He’s not a wrestling fan. There was a reason why Jonah Hill was advertised as the guest GM and it never aired. The guys hated working with him. There were some like Hugh Jackman, dynamite, The Muppets, they loved it. Almost everyone was a good experience. Jonah Hill was one that didn’t even make the air because he apparently just didn’t want to be there and it showed. I think somebody saw him mouthing to his agent, ‘Get me out of here.’”

AEW star Matt Sydal recently spoke with WrestlingNews.Co’s Steve Fall about a wide range of pro-wrestling-related topics, including how AEW President Tony Khan reacted when he told him he was injured, and the relief he felt knowing that he wouldn’t need surgery and that Khan supported him through the entire scare. Highlights from the interview are below. How Tony Khan reacted when he told him he didn’t need surgery: I’ll tell you what happened when Tony Khan found out what my injury was. He jumped up and hugged me because we didn’t need surgery. I mean, he’s as supportive as you could be, as encouraging as you could be. I mean, it was a setback. Everybody felt like it was taking the air out of a balloon when that happened. Says he hopes to make the most out of every match because he’s got many years behind him: I feel like I have injuries haunting me left and right. But this time, it just made me more focused on coming back, made me more angry and it just lit that fire on me because I don’t have all the time in the world. I don’t have a huge career in front of me. I have 22 years behind me. But everything that’s left, every match that’s left, is going to be the best match of my life because I’m at my best right now and I’m putting out my best work.
