Former WWE Superstar CARLITO Signs Multi-Event Deal with FSW
Posted: Sep 24th 2022 By: Future Stars of Wrestling
The PREMIER Professional Wrestling promotion in the Western United States does it again as FSW signs former WWE United States/Intercontinental Champion, “The Bad Apple” CARLITO, for both MECCA VIII (Oct 23. 2022) and AGAINST ALL ODDS (Nov 20, 2022).
ALL IN THE FAMILY
Carlito’s introduction to the profession was immediate in life with his dad — WWE Hall of Fame’r, CARLOS COLON. SR. — as one of wrestling’s biggest stars. Colón Sr. is a legend in Puerto Rico and was involved in many legendary feuds – including RIC FLAIR – whom he defeated to win the NWA Heavyweight Championship during a run while both were in their prime in 1983.
The experience of watching things as they unfolded in Puerto Rico gave Carlito a solid base on which to develop his approach to wrestling. That also included finding a way to avoid his dad’s shadow in the process.
What was cool about Puerto Rico was that you got to see guys come in from Japan, from Mexico, from Canada, and all these different places. It was like a melting pot where you get to see all these different styles blend together. I kind of just took stuff from different people and tried to make my own (style). I always wanted to be the first me and not the next anybody.
– CARLITO
CARLITO: WWE
Carlito wrestled for WWE from 2003 to 2010. During that time, he became a one-time United States Champion and one-time Intercontinental Champion.
He punctuated that by debuting a heel character nationally on the WWE show Smackdown — with his catchphrase of “I spit in the face of people who don’t want to be cool” — and beating crowd favorite JOHN CENA for the United States Championship in 2004. It was quite a spot for a 25-year-old to start in the world’s largest professional wrestling company.
“It was crazy,” Carlito said of the decided outcome in that match. “It was like, ‘They must really believe in me.’
Carlito performed with many of WWE’s top stars in the 2000s before leaving the company in 2010. He also won the Tag Team Championship with his brother, PRIMO (Edwin Carlos Colón), and hosted Carlito’s Cabana during his tenure.
CARLITO ON ENJOYING WRESTLING IN THE INDIES
There are benefits to working in front of smaller crowds and reasons for wrestlers on any level to enjoy them.
They are smaller audiences, but you can reach and connect with a lot more people in these independent shows. You get to see faces and hear voices. When you have a huge crowd, you don’t see faces or hear voices. It’s just a big roar.
– CARLITO
When asked about potentially helping the next generation as a coach or producer, Carlito has said “I’ve always liked helping the younger guys. I want the business to do better as a whole. Any part that I can do, I will help out where I can.”
Carlito specifically said he wanted to help better Latino representation in wrestling.
