Gail Kim believes the Impact Knockouts division has well earned the respect of fans from around the world. In 2007, former seven-time Knockouts Champion Gail Kim engaged in one of the fiercest rivalries in women’s wrestling history alongside Awesome Kong. Since then, Impact Wrestling elevated its Knockouts Division with all-women’s events, first-ever matches, and high-caliber competition with the best in the game. Kim, one of the game changers in Impact’s history, now serves as a producer for the Knockouts. In speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, Gail Kim spoke about the women’s division getting the respect they rightfully earned in a male-dominated industry. “I guess if you’re going to look at it in a mainstream perspective in terms of casual fans, they may not know [the history], but I definitely feel like we get the respect from within the industry, from the very hardcore, loyal fans who have been watching wrestling of all types, every company across the board for years. I feel like we get a lot of respect and the props for that, and I appreciate it,” Kim explained. “Listen, I’m just happy that it happened, to be honest,” she admitted. “I’m happy we [Kim and Awesome Kong] got the opportunity that we did that they brought in that title and ten girls in 2007 when nothing was happening for women’s wrestling. The fact that TNA got behind that, Jeff Jarrett, Dixie Carter at that time gave us that chance. That’s all I wanted. And then it was up to us to carry that ball and run with it. Right? And it was just a magical chemistry with me and Awesome Kong and will forever be grateful for that.” Kim went on to also praise the booking of the ever-expanding Knockouts division. “The company has been nothing but consistent in terms of pushing the women, giving them opportunities. Since 2007, it’s never stopped and 2022 is no exception. We have about 20 girls on the roster. They all have a prominent role on the show or have some type of role in the show. I think that’s important because when people are valued and used in the show, it’s less cutthroat, I guess you could say in a sense. People really support each other in terms of just creating the best match possible, giving their all to be the best in order to show that they have a platform to shine, basically.”
A new face of Impact Wrestling may be on the horizon. Former seven-time Knockouts Champion Gail Kim not only made her mark within the ring, but she currently serves as an executive for the company as well. As a producer for the Knockouts Division, Kim has lent her vast experience and voice to the current division. Gail Kim hopes to achieve even more, though. In speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, Kim revealed some of her next goals an executive in IMPACT, with a keen eye to help it grow and expand. “To help it grow, get it out there to more fans. Again, back to where we were, say, around the 2007, 2010 era,” Kim explained. “Definitely we’ve got a great management team and everyone’s very positive and we’re growing in terms of who we’re adding. So we want to start thinking outside the box in terms of what you see in wrestling. Gail Kim continued on to hint at a possible new face of the company. “Hopefully in the next coming months to the end of this year, you’re going to start seeing maybe a brand new face of IMPACT or something just a little bit different from what we’ve been doing,” she teased. Currently, Jordynne Grace reigns as the Knockouts Champion while Josh Alexander serves as the IMPACT World Champion. Could Gail Kim’s statement mean a change is soon coming though? Overall, Kim cited her main goal as wanting to aid in the growing direction of IMPACT Wrestling. “We just wanted to grow and expand, think outside the box and give wrestling fans something exciting again from us that maybe they’ve never seen before.”
Karrion Kross and Scarlett have been added to SmackDown’s internal roster, according to PWInsider. Kross is positioned as the number two heel under Roman Reigns.
After being attacked by the returning Karrion Kross on SmackDown last week, Drew McIntyre tweeted "Was I just jumped by the guy last seen wearing bondage and a helmet? I’ve had better Fridays…”
There’s been some speculation on the Major League Wrestling status of Karrion Kross and Scarlett after they returned to WWE on Friday’s "SmackDown". However, a new report from Fightful Select notes that they were never signed to MLW contracts, and despite being advertised for the CYN live event tour, they were not committed to those dates, either. It’s no secret that Kross and Scarlett returned to WWE due to the Triple H regime taking power in the wake of Vince McMahon’s retirement. Word now is that Triple H was “dismayed” by Kross’ booking on the main roster last year. It was reported earlier today that Kross is now listed internally as the #2 heel on SmackDown, behind Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. It was also reported that Scarlett will be only managing Kross, for now. The new report from Fightful notes that Kross was adamant outside of WWE that Scarlett remain a part of his presentation, to the point he passed up the AEW match against current TNT Champion Wardlow earlier this year. Kross didn’t want his presentation moving forward to be reminiscent of the RAW run that left a bad taste in people’s mouths. As noted, Friday’s "SmackDown" saw Kross destroy Drew McIntyre as McIntyre was preparing to hit the ring for a brawl with The Bloodline. Scarlett then taunted Reigns with an hourglass.
DEFY announced that Karrion Kross will be unable to compete at their "Doomsayers" event on August 20th. However, he and Scarlett will be at the show for an exclusive meet and greet.
A. J. Styles recently spoke with "Inside The Ropes" about a wide range of topics, including his thoughts on Triple H being in charge of the company’s creative and how he feels about the retirement of Vince McMahon. He said he is optimistic about Triple H being in charge following Vince McMahon’s retirement: “Well, you know, it’s only been, what, two, three weeks? So I haven’t really had that opportunity to read really, you know, sit down with him and chat with [Triple H], because he’s, I mean — at this point, you’re just so busy in that position, and it’s hard to find the time. It’s different for sure because it’s not Vince. I had a great relationship with Vince. It’s not bad or anything. I’m very optimistic about how everything is going. It’s just different. I never thought there’d be a time where I wouldn’t work for Vince, and so I’m just getting used to it just like everyone else. Again, it’s not a bad thing. It’s probably a great thing. It’s just different.” Reveals the chat he had with Triple H after his promotion: “We had a chat and everything was understood, you know, who was in charge and whatnot. Everybody is well respected in that position. So it’s, I don’t think anybody’s worried. In fact, I think, there’s a lot of people excited, and there’s been a lot of exciting things that have happened these past weeks. So I think it’s a great thing. Just, again, when you report to someone, and that one person that you had been getting your answers from, the one person that mattered, is not there anymore. It’s different, and you’re not sure how to approach some stuff, because you don’t want to overwhelm — I don’t want to overwhelm Triple H by asking him simple little questions that I can take care of myself. You know, I tried to with Vince, I didn’t try to overwhelm them with simple little things. But if I needed a definite answer, I knew who to go to. Now, it’s just finding time to be able to ask Triple H those same kinds of questions. Nothing major, hopefully, but just specifics of what needs to happen.”
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs. Rey Mysterio for the Cruiserweight Title from "No Way Out 2004" and A. J. Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura from the May 15, 2018 episode of "SmackDown".
In response to a fan on Twitter on Monday night, Mickie James wrote that she feels she’s “done in wrestling.” The fan asked James if she was going to be part of WWE’s Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament. James then responded to someone Wednesday who said she’s too good to retire: “I appreciate you. Honestly I’ve been so blessed & love my fans so much! I wouldn’t have had all this without you. What is left for me to prove anymore? What else can I do? Id rather bow out screaming ‘Womens Wrestling Matters’ from the top of the mountain than the valley.”
Effy doesn’t have heat with Jeff Jarrett, but his time working with the WWE Hall of Famer was a learning experience. In January 2021, Effy feuded with “Double J”, who attacked him and Alllie Katch at Game Changer Wrestling shows to set up a singles match. Effy then faced Jarrett at "The WRLD on GCW" on January 23rd and came up short at the buzzworthy event, which was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Effy cut promos online and at subsequent GCW shows, but Jarrett returned to WWE before they could face off again. On August 7h, the Twitter page for “Weekend at Effy’s" podcast posted a clip where the former GCW Tag Team Champion discussed his match with Jarrett. He noted that the WWE Hall of Famer has had a great year in the aftermath of their match. He went on to say that they don’t have heat, but he’s done being nice to “old pieces of s—“. Effy also stated that anyone he has heat with probably knows it. “January 21, 2022, Jeff Jarrett hits Effy with a guitar, and now, it’s the end of July, and let’s just put this into perspective,” said Effy. “He has a very highly-rated podcast with Conrad Thompson. He is a part of Ric Flair’s last match at the national auditorium, home of Starrcade '96. He was the guest referee for the 'SummerSlam' tag team championship match and is now a house show producer for WWE. It’s the first time he’s ever looked cool in his whole life. What I’m saying is, if you’re a washed-up old dummy superstar who can’t bump well and has to be at these Starrcasts with Effy and see how great I am, just know this. No, we don’t have any heat. I don’t genuinely have heat with anything. There’s nothing that could really get me that fired up, I don’t think. Maybe I’m wrong. There’s some things that get me fired up, but we don’t have any heat. But also, I’m not helping you anymore. “I’m not helping these old pieces of s—- who wanted to talk about me forever and ever, and how garbage I am, how I beat up children and how I put a dildo in front of someone and they ate whipped cream out of my ass and this isn’t real wrestling. I am the one that’s getting you back over in front of an audience that wouldn’t give a sh— about you, probably still only gives a little bit of a sh— about you, and you know that working with Effy, it’s gonna get over. It’s gonna work, it’s gonna be easy, and you’re not gonna get f— up. So I’m very tired of pretending like I have to be nice to anyone here. Yeah, if you think we have heat, we have f—- heat. If you don’t think we have heat, we probably don’t because I’m probably not even thinking about you.” Effy continued, noting that if he has said anything negative about anybody, it’s because of the things they’ve done and because they’re part of the larger problem.“If I’ve talked sh— about you, it’s because of things you’ve done,” said Effy. “It’s because of dip— stuff you do. It’s probably because you’re a symptom of a larger problem that includes people who can’t get over in wrestling thinking that they know what they’re talking about when the ratings across the board are garbage as f—. So y’all f— off, old people superstars, and remember that Effy’s in charge now. I’m the revolution.”
Bret Hart has made it clear that he is still upset with Goldberg for the career-ending concussion he suffered when Goldberg kicked him in the head at the "WCW Starrcade 1999" pay-per-view. During an appearance on "Talk is Jericho", Goldberg commented on Hart continuing to publicly criticize him and how he’s tired of apologizing. “Yeah, but I get it. I mean, I understand to a point. But I’m like yeah, 100%. Bret Hart is still up here, man. He’s an idol to anybody and everybody who would have ever been in this business. I’m a human being like everybody else. There was absolutely no malicious intent whatsoever. None. Zero. So does it bother me? Yeah. I’ll take it to my grave. But also, I gotta say, man. I am kinda at a turning point. I am done saying I’m sorry. I have said it a million times. I am not gonna continue to tear myself down. I’m done. I said I’m sorry. If he can’t accept my apology, it is what it is. You gotta move on. And I’ve moved on. So I won’t be breaching this subject too much more.” Goldberg also discussed a wide variety of pro wrestling subjects, including how he came up with his signature maneuver, the spear. He said he recalls someone asking him what his finisher was: “Walking out against Manny Fernandez. Jamie says ‘What’s your finish?’ I said ‘Finish? What is that, I don’t have a finish.’ He goes whatever you do, do something impactful that people are gonna remember.” How he came up with the spear in a match against Manny Fernandez: “So I get to the ring. Manny and I are circling. I say, ‘Manny, do you trust me?’ He goes, ‘Yeah’, I said ‘Then at the finish, tuck your head, spread your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.’ I did it, to me it was a natural move. I went in the back, and everybody’s mouths were open, hitting the floor, [they were] going, ‘Whatever you do, do that every single time.'”
During the latest episode of Ric Flair's podcast "To Be The Man", entitled "Inside The Last Match", the 16-time World Champion revealed that he passed out twice during his last match in what he thinks was because of dehydration. "I swear to God, twice during the match, I went completely black," Flair said. He noted he went into the match lighter than he was training and underestimated the importance of keeping his body hydrated. He said that at one point during the match, he was standing on the apron and looked at [Jay] Lethal and told him he's getting lightheaded and sick. "I'm sure a lot of it was nerves as well," Flair said. Flair continued saying that after he passed out, his son-in-law [Andrade el Idolo] was telling him it was his turn to go in and he had no idea at which point the match was because he was out for at least 10 seconds. The second time he passed out was before the guitar shot from Jeff Jarrett. Flair was supposed to be on the receiving end of it but Lethal took it instead. "Then along came the guitar. Right down, bingo, don't know. While I was down, I passed out again. I just passed out," Flair said. "Manny (el Idolo) is going, 'Sir you have to wake up, I have the brass knuckles. Sir, you have to wake up!' So then I woke up. I knew where we were, boom and we're home." Flair also discussed Jeff Jarrett nixing the idea of him getting superplexed from the top of the turnbuckle as he was worried about his health. The Nature Boy then said that after he went backstage, The Undertaker handed him two Gatorades and ordered him to drink those before he touched his beers. "My hand started trembling. But it was all dehydration. I had two doctors in there right away with me. I underestimated the importance of keeping hydrated, which is really big especially when I lost that much weight and trained that hard."
A week after stepping in the ring for his last match, Ric Flair was in Puerto Rico for World Wrestling Council's "49 Aniversario" event and got his hands dirty again. Flair was in the corner of his son-in-law Andrade el Idolo for his match against Carlito. Carlito’s father, Carlos Colon, evened up the odds during the match, coming out to confront Flair. The Nature Boy ran his mouth and removed his jacket and was ready to fight. Colón did the same and delivered two punches to the face and then a headbutt to Flair as they headed to the back. Carlito won the match to close the night. The event was held at Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón.
