NEWS
Prior to Ethan Page facing Leon Ruffin on Friday night’s “AEW Rampage - Fight for The Fallen” event on TNT, Page took to Twitter and poked fun at his lack of TV time in AEW. “Hey look … Ethan Page actually gets TV time this week! Nice change of pace at work if u ask me,” he wrote. “Keep up the great work @AEW [thumbs up emoji] Can’t wait to do this again in 5 weeks.” He added in a follow-up tweet, “Tonight I will be making a statement …” Page made another tweet that afternoon and issued a warning to everyone else. “Feel like I’ve been asleep for a month or 2,” he wrote. “Well, my eyes are open & everybody is f***ed [rolling on the floor laughing emoji] #AllEgo is back to being his best.” Page has worked 13 AEW matches in 2022 so far – he teamed with Scorpio Sky for a win over Logan Laroux & Mike Fowler at the January 19th “Elevation” tapings; he lost to current Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley on the January 21st “Rampage”; teamed with Sky for a win over Steve Pena & Jaden Valo at the February 9th “Elevation” taping; took a loss to Christian Cage on the March 4th “Rampage”; defeated J. D. Griffey at the May 18th “Elevation” taping; teamed with Sky & Paige VanZant for a win over Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, & Frankie Kazarian at “Double Or Nothing” on May 29th; defeated Kazarian at the June 3rd “Dark” taping; came up short against Miro on the June 15th “Road Rager” edition of “Dynamite”; defeated Serpentico at the June 22nd “Elevation” taping; was defeated by Orange Cassidy at the June 29th “Blood & Guts” edition of Dynamite; defeated Colin Delaney at the July 6th “Elevation” taping; and defeated Ruffin at the July 13th “Elevation” taping. He defeated Ruffin again this past week.

AEW star Ricky Starks recently joined the FITAID podcast to discuss a wide range of topics, including how "The Absolute One" has a dream of wrestling inside the world famous Mercedes-Benz Superdome in his hometown of New Orleans, LA. Highlights from the interview can be found below. On getting to wrestle in his hometown of New Orleans: “It was insane. My family was there. It was in my hometown. I was getting the admiration of people. You can see me almost cry when I do my entrance. I was so moved. It’s important to be vulnerable in those situations because people can relate to it and understand there is a little more to me. I don’t let everyone see me. If you get to see me beyond the front part of this beautiful museum, you’re pretty blessed. That was great. I was literally eight minutes from my house, from where I grew up watching wrestling. It was so cool to have that moment and then the stuff that happened after. My only regret about that night is that I didn’t send them home with a promo where I talked. It’s not that I regret it, I think I didn’t want to hold up everybody. I stayed after and made sure I gave everyone a picture and an autograph. That will live in my memory bank for as long as I hope.” How his next step will be to wrestle in the Superdome: “The day after, I went to my hotel and sat in the shower for a good 20 minutes. I sat there and my mom, sister, and brother all came. People I came up with were there. I don’t think people understand the feeling, to lose a hometown. Your hometown is gone after the storm [Hurricane Katrina]. To come back and have something that people are proud of. In New Orleans, they are very prideful people. To be the representation…I’m proud to be from New Orleans, to be from Louisiana. I may have an accent sometimes or say things a little funny or act a certain way. That’s me and me being part of New Orleans. It was a beautiful time. I visit a lot. I visit a lot when I feel there is bad stuff happening to me. I visit that because it’s my guard. I sat in that shower for 20 minutes, let the water drip on me and burn my skin. I was tearful because, who would have thought? Who would have guessed it? The next step is to wrestle at the Superdome. That’s the next goal. I was able to see WrestleMania at the Superdome when Taker [Undertaker] was wrestling (John) Cena and I said, ‘I’ll be here wrestling one day.'”

Between Daniel Garcia’s upset win over Bryan Danielson, Jungle Boy’s fiery promo, and Anna Jay’s new attitude on full display, a lot transpired on the “AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen” special episode. But the biggest talking point coming out of that show is Powerhouse Hobbs betraying Ricky Starks, turning Starks babyface in the process. The wrestling world is still buzzing about the promo that Starks cut moments after dropping the FTW Title to Hook, which seemed to plant the seeds for his babyface turn even before Hobbs’ timely double-cross. “Obviously, I lost, and I’m no stranger to losing and I’m okay with that,” Starks told Tony Schiavone. “But I want everybody to know something – I was given that [FTW] title when people thought it was a noose. I turned it around into a tie, and I made the most of it. I took leather and metal and made it into gold. I brought that title back to prominence, nobody back there can say they did, but I did. It was me! I exceeded all expectations, busted my ass every day, and never gave up, even when I was less than 100 percent. I deserve to be here talking to all of ya’ll for more than 40 seconds. I deserve that. And there are people back there who tell me, ‘Hey, be patient. Wait your turn. The time is gonna come.’ I don’t want to hear that no more. My time was last month, my time was last year, my god damn time is right now! And I don’t want people to say that I’ve had a string of bad luck. It’s not bad luck, it’s just a string of bad timing, that’s why me and Hobbs were…” At this point, Hobbs began viciously assaulting his former tag team partner. The likes of Matt Cardona, Bully Ray, Amanda Huber, and Swerve Strickland had nothing but praise for Starks on social media. Furthermore, the TNT Drama Twitter handle is continuing to celebrate Starks by replacing its header photo to display “Starks Week,” a play on words to the ongoing “Shark Week” programming across WarnerMedia Discovery’s networks.

AEW star Jake Hager recently participated in a virtual signing with "Captain’s Corner", where the former world champion spoke about sharing the ring with Claudio Castagnoli, a man he used to team with during their WWE days together. Hager also gives his thoughts on Logan Paul, and whether he thinks he will be able to capture the hearts of WWE fans in the long run. Highlights from the interview are below. On getting to wrestle Claudio in AEW following their run as a tag team in WWE: "What a cool twist of fate for our paths to intertwine at Blood & Guts like that [Hager said about him and Claudio Castagnoli]. You heard the audience when he came out at 'Forbidden Door'. The wrestling universe, whatever you wanna call it has been dying to have some more Claudio. It’s just too bad he had to get in my way and we had to punch each other in the face again but, it’s cool to see [he’s] the new ROH Champion, World Champion. Guess I got my foot in my mouth. Said he’d never be a world champion and now he is one. You know, good for him. Stay out of my face Claudio.” His thoughts on Logan Paul, and how he thinks it will be difficult for him to get over long term with WWE fans: "I got a feeling it’s gonna be pretty hard for Logan [Paul] to get over with the wrestling fans. Yeah [in a long-term sense]. We’ll see."

Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler, known as F. T. R., defeated The Briscoes (Mark Briscoe & Jay Briscoe) in a tag team match at Ring of Honor's "Death Before Dishonor" pay-per-view on July 23rd. On last week's "AEW Dynamite", F. T. R. delivered an emotional promo. Harwood narrated the story of a five-year-old girl diagnosed with a "hole in her heart." He said that the young girl could overcome the diagnosis if she "worked hard" or else she'd require open heart surgery. He eventually revealed it was his daughter, who is now eight years old, promising to fight as hard as her in their rematch against The Briscoes. On the latest episode of "Jim Cornette's Drive Thru", Cornette reviewed the promo but was pissed with AEW for not giving any background on who The Briscoes are: "They announced a rematch of a match that was held on another program, that was neither ever recapped, or clipped, or highlighted on this television nor have Mark and Jay Briscoes' faces or voices ever appeared on this television. And they just went right by and assumed (...) they assumed everybody watching would know who the Briscoes are. Even though they have never been on the show and have never been seen on the program in any kind of tape or VTR or whatever." He added that people watching the show for the first time would struggle to find the context: "There names might have been mentioned a time or two in relation to their first match with F. T. R. Now luckily AEW does not have anybody watching this program that does not know who all their people are because nobody would take that amount of time to do that out of their life, except somebody who already love this shit. Which is the problem. If anybody who was accidentally was watching this show for the first time and all they have ever seen is WWE because they got fucking life, kids, jobs, whatever. They would be going 'wait rematch Briscoes? Who the fuck is that?'"

WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW star Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently appeared on "Busted Open Radio" to discuss a wide range of topics, most notably what he thinks about the retirement of Vince McMahon, and how this gives Tony Khan a further opportunity to cement his name in the wrestling industry. Highlights from the interview are below. His thoughts on Vince finally retiring: “I didn’t know if he’d retire or if somebody would kill him first. I really didn’t because he’s pissed off a lot of friggin people, man. And sometimes money can get you out of shit. But all it takes is one loose nut to put a shell in your ass that stops everything. And I always thought that it would be something along the lines of FOX television. Maybe that might try it and throw the ball out there as AEW has. AEW, they’re taking it to him right now. And I hope to hell that helps Tony [Khan] keep pushing and keeps going and grabbing. Because it’s all available, you just got to have the balls to go out and get it.” How Vince and WWE are no longer the only game in town right now: “There’s a whole world out there that’s still wanting more and more, and they don’t like the flavor that WWE is putting out there. For a long time, Vince was the only game in town. Well, he’s not the only game in town anymore. There’s a new game, and it’s getting attention. It’s getting momentum going, and that’s the thing about momentum. Once it gets going, it starts to snowball once it snowballs, it’s unstoppable. And Tony and them are getting close to that point. And I hope to hell they do it, man. I hope to be a part of it. I haven’t been on TV in several months now, but I guess they're saving me for a special occasion. I don’t mind; I’m still getting paid. So I’m pretty happy.”

It’s no secret that Eddie Kingston has beef with a lot of people, he probably has issues with me, or you. Kingston has spoken out about his disdain for Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and CM Punk in recent months, and obviously most recently Chris Jericho. Kingston recently appeared on Highspots’ "Sign-It-Live", where he ran down a list of people that he doesn’t like in AEW. Kingston then mentioned Sammy Guevara, and how he thinks he sucks. He said: “Who’d I bury? Punk, Bryan, and Claudio? Who else did we bury? Oh yeah, Sammy. Sammy sucks. I know people like Sammy. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. I’m just saying, all the moves he does, the Bucks do and do ‘em better, and I don’t even like the Bucks,” Eddie then continued on, claiming that he will "fuck him up" if he is was "Fight for the Fallen" show this past week. He said “I hope he’s there Wednesday. I pray to god Sammy’s there Wednesday. I’m gonna fuck him up. You guys think this is a joke, like this is all a work, since everybody likes to use the insider terms. I don’t like that little cocksucker.” Sammy made his first appearance since "Blood and Guts" at the conclusion of last week’s "AEW Dynamite - Fyter Fest" show, where he helped Chris Jericho defeat Eddie Kingston in a Barbed Wire Everywhere Match.

The latest edition of Sammy Guevara's vlog can be viewed by clicking here.

WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded A, J. Styles & Omos vs. The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) for the RAW Tag Team Titles from the July 26, 2021 episode of RAW.

MVP has dealt with negative fans or those just trying to troll him. He gave out some advice via Twitter, which was to develop thick skin. He wrote the following: “A word of advice to those choosing to be a performer. If you put your talents on display for others to see, people will have opinions. In the age of social media people will state & share their opinions of you & your talents. People say mean things. Develop THICK skin. As social media’s presence grows in our society it seems people being overly sensitive, as well as people being overly cruel, are keeping up with that growth. What a time to be a performer. What a time to be alive.” A fan commented on his tweet, “Nobody tells you how much ‘thick skin’ costs you… what it takes from you… the pieces of ourselves we never get back.” MVP responded, “Then perhaps one who holds this pov should strongly reconsider putting their talents on display for the world to see. When you do so you INVITE criticism. Good and bad.”

Dutch Mantell gave his thoughts on the retirement of Vince McMahon as CEO and Chairman while speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s "Smack Talk". WWE has named Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan as the new co-CEOs of WWE. Mantell believes that Khan could have played a part in the retirement of McMahon. “Well, I think that Nick Khan was inserted into the company, and I said this a long time ago. I think he was inserted there to get Vince out.” As previously reported, the second Wall Street Journal report alleged McMahon paid $12 million in hush money to four women in the past 16 years to suppress sexual misconduct and infidelity allegations. The first report from the WSJ was about how McMahon had a $3 million hush pact in January after McMahon and a former paralegal had an affair. Mantell questioned how the recent allegations against Vince that led to McMahon’s retirement were leaked. “Now, somehow, all these NDAs leaked from Titan Towers to the Wall Street Journal. Now, how did they get leaked? They had to leak from the inside, and I’m not accusing anybody; I want to make that clear. But how did they leak it out from Stamford? They leaked out, and all of a sudden, the Wall Street Journal got invested in this story; more leaked out and more leaked out till the pressure became too great for Vince to withstand, so he resigned. Like you said, the investigation is not complete at all.”

Ric Flair recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet to promote his "Last Match" event this Sunday. During it, Flair discussed Vince McMahon’s retirement from WWE amidst the hush money scandals that the WWE Board of Directors is investigating. “I wasn’t happy about it at all. I love Vince McMahon. I don’t know what he’s doing right now. But I feel like he’ll have a hard time. He’ll adjust, obviously. But he loved the business. He made us all who we are, from Hulk to everybody. I don’t care what everybody thinks. He made us and I have nothing but respect for him.” Flair also revealed the one piece of advice he will remember that Vince gave him: “He said that I needed to get my shit straightened out because I was pretty wild, as people are well aware of, and I can be remembered for two things. I can either be the greatest wrestler of all time, or I could be some guy that pissed it away. You know, getting married too many times and he was with me through it all.”

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair does not believe John Cena will break his record by becoming a 17-time World Champion in WWE. The Nature Boy recently appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s "INSIGHT" podcast and said he doesn’t believe WWE will give that honor to a part-time talent. Flair also said he believes 14-time World Champion Randy Orton has a better chance at breaking the record. “I don’t think so,” Flair said when asked about Cena possibly becoming a 17-time World Champion. “I don’t think they will ever give it to a part time performer. I think that Randy Orton has a better shot at it, Randy will come back, he has to have surgery.” Flair continued and said he won’t be offended because his real number is 21. He praised Cena and claimed WWE told Cena that he couldn’t hang around Flair years ago. “But I certainly wouldn’t be offended because the real number is 21,” Flair said. “They all have a way to go. But I love John Cena, he is a such a credible performer and just one of the great guys in the business. About 10 years ago they told John that he couldn’t hang around with me. No, like 2008, I would go out drinking with John, and John could drink some beers back then. But then they said ‘Hey, we would like you to hang around a bit less with Flair on those European tours.’ I didn’t take it personally.” Flair will return to the ring this coming weekend at the one-night-only Jim Crockett Presents event during "Starrcast V" weekend, teaming with Andrade El Idolo to take on Jay Lethal and WWE Hall of Famer & Senior Vice Presidents of Live Events Jeff Jarrett. This is being billed as Flair’s last match.

“Ric Flair’s Last Match” is not what it was initially supposed to be, and The Nature Boy has now confirmed that AEW President Tony Khan had a hand in that. Flair sat down with Chris Van Vliet on the latest episode of “Insight” to discuss how his last match, which will take place this Sunday in Nashville, came about. “Conrad [Thompson] and I put it together initially,” Flair said. “We were going to go outside and get some people from AEW, and then it all became a little political with Tony. I’m not sure why he changed things around, but it’s okay. We worked around it and we’re sold out, and that’s all that matters.” Initial reports had suggested that Flair was going to be teaming with F. T. R. (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) against Ricky Steamboat & The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson), but while it’s possible something fell through with the involvement of one of AEW’s most popular tag teams, Steamboat claims he’s the one who turned down the offer. “I thought about it for a week and just recently just declined on it,” he said during a signing. Steamboat’s reasoning was that he didn’t want fans’ last impression of him to be tainted, which Flair seems to understand. “He had that great little run with Jericho back in 2011,” Flair said. “I think Rick wanted to go out with that memory.” Instead of tagging with F. T. R., Flair is teaming up with his son-in-law, Andrade el Idolo, as they go up against Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett. The fight has been built over the course of three episodes of a docuseries leading up to the match as well as on Flair and Jarrett’s respective podcasts. Lethal and el Idolo are also talents that have been featured on AEW television, rendering the nature of Khan’s political machinations unclear. There had also been speculation that Flair was going to sign a deal with AEW after being released from his WWE contract in 2021, but everything halted following the airing of a “Dark Side Of The Ring” episode that covered Flair’s involvement in the infamous “Plane Ride From Hell” back in 2002.

AEW superstar Andrade el Idolo recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about being Ric Flair’s tag partner in his final ever match, a historic event that takes place this Sunday. The duo will be taking on Jay Lethal and WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett. El Idolo says in the interview he hopes to make his wife, Charlotte Flair, proud, as well as his home country. Highlights from the interview are below. Says he is proud to be teaming up with his father-in-law: “I am proud to tag with Ric. I am looking forward to standing next to my father-in-law, and maybe we can even show the world a few new tricks.” Recalls Flair being in his corner at AAA TripleMania XXIX: “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that moment last summer. I had already made a name for myself in Mexico City with CMLL, and I was so focused on trying to prove myself in the states when we first met in WWE. Returning to Mexico City with the support of an international superstar, arguably the greatest of all time, that is something that never crossed my mind.” Says he wants to make Ric and his wife Charlotte, proud “Ric could have chosen anyone to stand beside him for this big moment, and he chose me. Not only do I want to make my wife proud, but growing up as a third-generation luchador from Gomez Palacio, Durango in Mexico, I am also going to make my country proud. My father-in-law and I come from two different worlds, but our love for this business is the same. People will see that when we step into the ring on Sunday.”

The Undertaker recently chatted with Sports Illustrated about the final match of Ric Flair, which will see The Nature Boy team with Andrade el Idolo against Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett. The Deadman states that he didn’t really want to see Flair wrestle again, but wishes his old friend well in his final outing. Highlights from the interview are below. Says he personally didn’t want to see Flair wrestle again, but hopes that the final match is a fitting ending chapter: "I love this business and I’ve dedicated the past 30-plus years of my life to it, but knowing how my body feels after my career, I don’t know how he’s doing it. Flair is on a whole other level. It wasn’t long ago he was on his deathbed. This world is better with Flair in it. Personally, I don’t want to see it. I’m happy he’s doing well. I wish the best for him, and I hope he gets everything out of it that he wants.” Says he was never in the running to be Flair’s final opponent: "No, no, no [I was never a candidate to be part of Ric’s last match]. I saw Flair recently, and I said to him, ‘What are you doing?’ But Flair is Flair. He started telling me, ‘I’m working on this, I’m working on that.’ Again, I want all the best for him. I just hope he takes care of himself and that he is smart about this."

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance during the "Roast of Ric Flair" on Friday night, appearing via a pre-taped video message as an emotional Flair looked on. Taking a page literally out of Flair’s “jet flying” line, The Rock recorded his message at an airport sporting an XFL shirt. Johnson recounted how he met Flair when he was a kid and how back in the day, his mother would be sewing Flair’s robes. “Even at eight years old, I will never forget, you were so kind to me. So kind to me, even if I was just a punk kid,” Johnson said. “And when I was a little older, I met you at the NWA Convention in Las Vegas when I was 12 years old and I went up to shake your hands, ‘Excuse me Mr. Flair, I’m…’ and before I could introduce myself, you went 'Dewey' and you gave me a big hug!” Johnson said Flair treated him good and made him feel special and he would never forget that. He said that when years later his dad passed away, he was one of the first people who called him and said he’d be down in Florida for his funeral. “The best thing about you, in my opinion, is the human being that you are. Thank you for being such a great human being to me, and to my family, and to my grandmother who, you as NWA World Champion, would stop in Hawaii, you knew you were getting a shitty payoff, but you still went because you love the business and you cared for my family,” Johnson continued. “I love you, congratulations on your last match, and of course I want to end this the only way I know how….Wooooo!”
