Pro Wrestler's Talk Show to Hit Marion Arena

The sounds of bagpipes and roll of a snare drum will fill Marion's Extreme Wrestling Federation Arena on Saturday as World Wrestling Entertainment Hall-of-Famer and former WWE Intercontinental Champion Rowdy Roddy Piper will host his talk show, Piper's Pit.
"I have no idea who is going to be in the pit," Piper said in a phone call Thursday. "I have no idea what I'm going to do. Sometimes I have to walk about there and hear what people are thinking."
For Piper, places like the EWF in Marion give him the opportunity to fulfill a responsibility the 38-year veteran of professional wrestling thinks he has to today's young wrestlers just starting out.
"It's my duty to help the younger guys," he said. "They have nobody to help them, and that gets me so angry. The success I've had in the business, there's no chance for the young guys in the business to be seen unless they want to be put in a control factory."
According to EWF promoter Jayson Maples, he is able to bring in well-known talent like Piper because of their desire to help cultivate young talent. He also said many of them actually come in at a discounted price.
"Most of the guys I've been friends with for quite some time," Maples said. "Though you may think that most of these guys are millions of dollars a year guys, a lot of the guys come in relatively inexpensive, doing it more as a favor to the young guys and the fans. That said, they aren't cheap."
No matter how much fame Piper has, one thing he guaranteed was fans can expect to see him perform with his heart and his guts Saturday.
"Piper's Pit is much a very improv-type of piece of work," Piper said. "To bring it to an audience that is much lower than the attendance (of a pay-per-view or arena event), I'm used to it. To me it doesn't make much of a difference."
