NEWS
Billy Robinson, Karl Gotch, and Dory Funk, Jr. were among those announced as being inducted into the International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Albany, NY for 2022.

Control Your Narrative was founded by EC3 with the idea that wrestlers who were underused or overlooked in other companies will have a chance to tell their own stories. The controversial promotion has looked to set itself apart by allowing wrestlers to control the way their careers unfold. A recent Instagram post shared a lengthy set of rules that one must follow to control their narrative. Wrestling fans on Twitter immediately pounced on the list of rules. Many pointed out contradictions and inconsistencies. Others just made fun of it as a failed attempt to be edgy. Time will tell if Control Your Narrative finds long-term success. Many fans have no interest in giving the promotion a chance based on who is involved and what they believe it stands for. EC3 has gone out of his way to explain his side of the story. It appears that he is failing to control his narrative at the moment.

It was only last November that Booker T suggested that The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner) would never make the WWE Hall of Fame and gave his reasons. He said “No. Should they be? Yes. Will they be? I don’t think so just because of, I mean, Rick Steiner, he’s been one of those guys who let a lot of things roll off his shoulders. He doesn’t think about it too much. His brother Scott has always been very, very outspoken about the industry, the company, and a lot of people in it. Was the stuff he was saying right or wrong? That’s neither here nor there. Should they be in the Hall of Fame on their accomplishments and their accomplishments alone? Harlem Heat is in the Hall of Fame, and we never worked in the WWE. The Steiner Brothers did. The Steiner Brothers worked in WWE. They worked in WCW. They worked at UWF. I’m trying to say how long these guys have been around. They’ve been around for a long time. They’ve done it in every promotion. These guys have been the IWGP Tag Team Champions. My brother and I never became IWGP Tag Team Champions. These guys, The Steiner Brothers, really did do it all as far as professional wrestling, tag team wrestling goes. I give those guys big props. Should they be in the Hall of Fame? Yes. Should The Nasty Boys be in the Hall of Fame? Should Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags, The Nasty Boys, be in the Hall of Fame? Yes. I think those guys should be in the Hall of Fame. Will they get there? I don’t know. I don’t know who determines or who makes the decisions as far as that goes, but both of those tag teams should be in the Hall of Fame.” It seems WWE is going out its way to start making the show much more relevant and that Vince is starting to put old issues behind him to give fans the moments they deserve.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has uploaded a free match to NJPW World from May 3, 1997 "Strong Style Evolution" event featuring Keiji Mutoh & The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner) vs. Masahoro Chono & The Outsiders (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash). Click here to view the match.

Bobby Fulton announced last week that he has purchased one of the old wrestling rings used by Bill Watts for Mid-South and UWF. He also said that he is opening a wrestling academy in North Carolina and eventually in his home state of Ohio as well.

"Beyond the Mat", the pro wrestling documentary from 1999 featuring Terry Funk, Mick Foley, and Jake Roberts, among others, is now streaming on Discovery+. All three seasons of "Dark Side of the Ring" are available on the platform as well.

Mick Foley announced that he will be starting a podcast “Foley Is Pod” soon.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Sol Yang, who passed away March 14, 2022. He was 30 years old. Yang, whose real name was Leng Yang and who also used the name Sol Van Heart, was a wrestling fan who was encouraged to become a referee by Dimitri Alexandrov and Kai Fayden. Yang debuted January 8, 2016 at an SRPW event and worked for many of the Oklahoma independent federations. In recent years, he had begun to work for regional promotions as well, mostly in Texas, but also in Kansas and Missouri. Perhaps his most high-profile referee opportunity came in 2019 when Impact Wrestling held their annual “Victory Road” iPPV event in Enid and Yang was one of the referees for that. Yang was an avid gamer and a member of OKGamers. But the thing that was most notable about Yang was his smile. Many wrestlers, promoters, and fans have made posts since his death talking about how his smile lit up the room, how he always had time to talk to people, how he made time for special fans. And this is how everyone will choose to remember him. Yang’s first match was Alex Royal vs. Anarchy at an SRPW event on January 8, 2016 in Oakhurst. The final Oklahoma match he refereed was for Mr. Nasty vs. Tommy Dean at CPW on March 5, 2022.

A GoFundMe has been setup for the family of Sol Yang to help offset the expenses of his funeral and any financial burdens for his parents. To donate, go to GoFundMe.com/f/Leng-Yangs-Life-Celebration
