Champion Vs. Champion! (Part 2 of 2)
Posted: Oct 26th 2007 By: CMBurnham
In the last part of this series, we looked at the recent actions of ComPro Champion Anthony Jackson and FCW Champion The Canadian Red Devil as they prepared for their meeting Saturday at COMPOUND Pro Wrestling's Second Night of Champions. In this article, we'll look at the previous meetings between these two superstars as well as their recent schedules leading up to their titanic clash on October 27.
The first meeting between Jackson and the Devil occurred in a tag team match on September 9, 2005 in TPW as Sexy Bologna (Jackson and current ComPro Tag Team Champion Sudden Impact 1) faced off against the New Canada combination of the Devil and Jon Davis. This match was to determine the #1 contenders to the TPW Tag Team Titles held by The Forsaken (Michael Faith & Halo). The Devil's popularity was already apparent here as giant chants of "Canada!" were heard throughout the match, along with chants of "Homo" which were directed at Jackson. Sadly, there was no winner in this match as it was declared a Double DQ when it got out of hand.
The next meeting between Jackson & the Devil also took place in a tag team match, this time at the very first ComPro event on August 26, 2006. This time, it would be the Canadian Luchadore taking the Devil's side in New Canada against Sexy Bologna, but Jackson & Impact came out victorious in this event, one of the last to see Sexy Bologna as a tag team.
On October 14, 2006 at the Wagoner Fall Festival, Jackson and the Devil faced each other in a 1-on-1 match for the first time and while the Devil had the support of the fans from the onset, Jackson took advantage of every trick in the book and came out with a win.
But the Devil evened things out, although it took him almost a year to do so. The date was August 25, 2007 and in the main event of the COMPOUND event that night, the Devil defeated Anthony Jackson in the ring. Although Jackson would rebound from this to defeat AWOL for the ComPro title, it still nagged at himin the back of his head that he had been pinned in this match.
Jackson's ring time since winning the ComPro title has been rather limited. He made 2 title defences on September 22 & 29 against Michael York & Rico Suave respectively. Ironically, these are 2 of the guys that Jackson criticised FCW Tag Team Champion Romero Contreras for beating in his dark match openers to remain undefeated. After taking out Rico, Jackson shook his hand and then did not appear for the next 2 weeks. But, as detailed in the previous half of this article, he came back last week with other plans for Rico.
The Devil has had a much more intense schedule since Jackson won the title. He's wrestled almost every week against a variety of opponents, including Rico Suave (the week after Jackson defeated him), SWCW Tag Team Champions Luc Lapointe and SWCW Sooner Xtreme Champion Beau Dalton (in successive weeks), a Triple Threat Title match against El Super Colibri and Michael York and a Body Slam challenge (which he did not lose) against Cold Blooded Chris. The Devil has come out unscathed from these encounters and enters the match this Saturday undefeated this year in singles encounters.
So, who will prevail in this championship encounter? While Oklafan is not in the habit of wagering or even making major predictions, we believe that both men will have to be at the top of their game in order to walk away with the ComPro Championship. Jackson has experience, size and cunning on his side. The Devil has the support of the fans, speed and has been competing more regularly over the past few weeks. Whichever man comes out the winner, it's guaranteed that both men will know they've been in a fight.
