Three Up, Three Down! Drake Goes Over Strong At UWO Event
Posted: Jul 14th 2021 By: Michael Hunt
A recent article on Oklafan.com showed that Drake Gallows had more matches than any other current wrestler in Oklahoma. And a second article suggested that perhaps Gallows was nearing the maximization of his time in-ring.
Well, apparently Mr. Gallows was never shown that second article. And if he saw the first, he only saw it as inspiration. Because another weekend went by and anothe r4 matches were added to Gallows’ record, with three of them being at the same event.
Saturday saw the monthly UWO event in Midwest City. Prior to the crowd being let in, a UWO “Pop-Up” event was held and Gallows, who is the EPW All-American Champion and 1/2 of the ASP Tag Team Champions, challenged Warren Powers for the EPW Internet Television Title. Powers was accompanied to the ring by The Rebel Hearts, whom he had recently formed an alliance with. So essentially, Gallows was facing a 3-on-1 with Christian Temple and Warren Powers being incredibly distracting at ringside. Despite this factor, Gallows looked to be on his way to adding another title to his lengthy resume and when things looked disastrous for Powers, The Rebel Hearts jumped in, causing Powers to be disqualified. Powers would retain the title due to the DQ, but Gallows would notch up his first victory of the night.
When the official “Parade of Champions 8” began, C. M. Burnham came to the ring and announced that he had convinced the new UWO Champion, Brawler Morrison, to go defend the UWO Title outside of Oklahoma. He also had encouraged Father Padge to go up to Kansas and compete on a card there. None of Burnham’s charges were present at the card, which brought Gallows out to ask him why he was there. Gallows saw an opportunity to play around with Burnham, even pointing out that his zipper was not properly drawn up at one point. But while it was fun and games at first, Gallows eventually pointed out that all of Burnham’s charges were gone, leaving Burnham all alone. As Gallows appeared to be backing Burnham into a corner, from out of the back came WAH Tag Team Champion Dan Webber! Webber immediately jumped to Burnham’s defense and an impromptu match began. Webber had the upper hand on Gallows several times in the match, even hitting him with his signature spine buster, but only getting a two-count from that. Gallows eventually moved the match outside the ring, battling Webber all the way around the ring before getting back in and preparing to hit a power bomb for the win. That prompted Burnham to hop up on the ring and hit Gallows in the neck with his cane, getting Webber disqualified. Webber and Burnham beat a hasty retreat and Gallows chalked up another win via DQ for the night. But believe it or not, the night was not over.
Gallows’ tag team partner Revan was scheduled to try to succeed where Gallows couldn’t, challenging Warren Powers to try to regain the EPW Internet Television Title. Being the first ITV Champion, Revan wanted to be the first person to hold that belt more than once and he thought that he had a stronger chance than Gallows did as The Rebel Hearts stayed in the back while this match happened. At least, for the most part. But once again, when it looked like Powers was in danger of losing the title, the Rebel Hearts came running to the ring, causing Warren to lose by DQ, but allowing him to retain the title. This time, though, the sides were evened up very quickly as Gallows and Mitch Onyx came running to the ring and an impromptu 6-man Tag Team match was made. That match broke down with people fighting both inside and outside the ring until Powers and Gallows, who had started the night facing each other, found themselves alone in the ring. Gallows hit the powerbomb and pinned the ITV Champion for the win.
Three matches in one day would be enough for any regular wrestler, but Gallows still had plenty in the tank the next day at the ASP event. DNR were set to defend their titles against Thrash and Duncan Kincaid. It was an odd pairing, as Kincaid was not a member of Legendary, but apparently had made an application to join. Burnham allowed it, but told Kincaid he had one chance to impress him. Thrash was absolutely dominant, showing off his power as he picked up and slammed Revan with a little more force than usual at least twice during the match. But when Kincaid was tagged in, things became different. Though initially strong on the offense, Kincaid quickly tagged out and collapsed in the corner, complaining about being unable to breathe because he had swallowed his gum. Burnham’s hopes of regaining the ASP Tag Team Titles appeared to be slipping away as Thrash had to carry the team load and Kincaid’s hopes of becoming a member of Legendary seemed to be spiraling down the drain. Kincaid recovered, though and tagged back in to the match, hitting Gallows and Revan with strong clotheslines which really fired him up. So much so, apparently, that he then clotheslined Thrash by mistake. And that was the end for Kincaid’s opportunities. Thrash and Burnham left him in the ring to the actions of Gallows and Revan and a few moments later, Kincaid was pinned and DNR retained the ASP Tag Team Titles.
Gallows cannot afford to rest on his laurels, though, as his win over Warren Powers in the 6-Man tag prompted UWO Commissioner Tuck Davion to sign another EPW Internet Television Title match for Gallows this Friday at the UWO TV event.
