WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg leads team helping apartment complex residents with supplies

District 4 Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia said as far as her office knows, the Marbach Park Apartments is the last apartment complex in her district with severe plumbing problems, leaving hundreds of folks without water.
Coming to the rescue is the Salvation Army and WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg, who lives just north f San Antonio. Goldberg brought his son and a number of volunteers from the Hybrid School of Wrestling, as well as Mission Pro Wrestling to distribute water and food to about 300 residents at the
apartment complex.
This was only for people who live in this apartment complex. Some folks drove up and had their cars loaded with bottled water and food, others had the items delivered directly to their door. A large number of senior citizens and disabled people live in this apartment complex.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about me. It’s just about being another person leading two arms and two legs to help other people," said Goldberg. "It teaches them a good lesson and it provides a community with food and water that the need so much.”
Sheryl Woodard hasn’t had running water for almost two weeks. So we asked Councilwoman what the city is doing to help these residents and put pressure on those property owners to get the plumbing fixed?
”I encourage them to call us immediately," said Garcia. "We had a case a couple of days ago - as soon as we were notified, we got into action. And so we had help from our assistant city manager and we got them taken care of. So please just reach out to the city.”
Almost everyone in San Antonio now has running water. But there are plenty of people dealing with long-term damage from busted pipes which could lead to issues like mold. We asked Garcia what how the city plans to help people with extensive damage?
"We are going to be informed about that and we are going to be working on that type of plan," said Garcia. "We know that there’s already a fund that was set up to help with a lot of the plumbing issues and I would assume some of the remediation efforts as well would come from that fund.”
The councilwoman says the city is expecting to get additional funds from FEMA to help pay for relief.
The city council is scheduled to meet next week. That’s when we should be getting new information on exactly how you would be able to get those funds to pay for damage from busted pipes.
If you still need help with food or water or even cleaning supplies to help clean up the mess from a busted pipe, the Salvation Army of San Antonio can help you get those things. Just call (210) 352-2000
