Most fans would have expected Mike Bennett to have spent Valentine’s Day with his beautiful wife, Maria Kanellis. However, the former WWE wrestler who is currently in the process of rebuilding his career has shared on Twitter he actually worked an indie show instead. To get to the venue in Oklahoma, Bennett revealed he braved a blizzard, but sadly only 14 fans were able to attend. Despite this, Bennett still performed and didn’t let it get him down saying “Still gotta go. I love this shit.” Along with his wife, Bennett was part of WWE’s mass cuts back in April 2020. He had actually requested his release before then, but WWE declined, instead of waiting until it suited them. Bennett recently returned to ROH, where he saw much of his career success and is clearly open to working independent wrestling shows.
Carlito was interviewed by the WhattaDayJoe on YouTube. Carlito says he currently doesn’t have any more work with the WWE and is open to other opportunities. You can wicth the video by clicking here.
Intercontinental Champion Big E, Wade Barrett, Booker T, Elias, Victoria, John Morrison, Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai, Kayla Braxton and the cast of WWE’s The Bump, announcer Cody Decker and Youtuber (and host of Speak Now Pro Wrestling on our website) Denise Salcedo were among those who appeared on Sunday night’s Elimination Chamber edition of WWE Watch Along.
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded an eight-man tag team match with Batista, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, & The Undertaker facing Edge, Randy Orton, MVP, & Mr. Kennedy from the February 15, 2007 episode of RAW.
The non-title match between WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar and Karrion Kross was reportedly nixed from this week’s NXT episode due to a medical issue. As noted, Kross vs. Escobar had been advertised for Wednesday night’s NXT show, but the match disappeared from the WWE website that morning and was not being advertised. WWE then aired a segment last night where Escobar told NXT General Manager William Regal that he was going home because he didn’t like being threatened, and that the match would happen on his terms. Regal then announced the match for next Wednesday night and said even though this is a non-title bout, Escobar will be stripped of the title and suspended indefinitely if he does not show up. In an update, it was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the Kross vs. Escobar match was delayed due to a medical reason. No specifics on the medical issue were provided. Dave Meltzer noted that he first heard of the medical reason and the match being nixed on Tuesday, the day before the show, adding that he was really surprised to hear that the match was re-scheduled for just one week later. It was also said that the Kross vs. Escobar feud was a storyline out of necessity, not a planned storyline. There’s no word on what WWE has planned for Kross vs. Escobar next week, or if the match will actually happen. Kross and Escobar have been feuding for a few weeks now after Escobar insulted Kross on the mic during a promo. Besides the pre-recorded promo from his car, Escobar did not appear on last night’s show. His Legado del Fantasma partners Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza were also missing. Kross and Scarlett later appeared in a pre-recorded backstage segment where they issued a warning to Escobar.
It has been reported that Taya Valkyrie has signed a WWE contract and will join NXT. She is the wife of John Morrison.
During a recent episode of "Something To Wrestle With", Bruce Prichard spoke on Andre the Giant hating his Brother Love character. Here’s what he had to say: “Andre was a different cat. When I started doing Brother Love, Andre had been gone for a while and Andre came back, and he did not like Brother Love. Hated the gimmick and told me that he didn’t want to work with that guy. Told Pat [Patterson] he didn’t want to work with that guy. Told Vince [McMahon] he didn’t want to work with that guy. When I was in Brother Love shit, he wouldn’t talk to me. He would just kind of grunt and not talk to me or do anything. When I was Bruce, nice as could be. One day Vince was like, ‘What’s the heat with you and Andre?’ I said, ‘Vince, I don’t know. I know he hates Brother Love. He’s told me he hates the gimmick.’ He’s like, ‘Have you talked to him?’ I said, ‘I’ve tried. He’s fine with me. It’s really weird.’ I put the Brother Love shit on, and he fucking kind of becomes an asshole. So, Vince had I had to get dressed in my Brother Love shit but don’t put the makeup on and don’t do the hair and everything. We sat in, and he said, ‘Andre, is there a problem here?’ He said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘Well you said you don’t want to do anything with Brother Love. Why is that?’ He said, ‘I don’t like Brother Love.’ Now, I’m sitting right there. He says you like Bruce, right? ‘I like Bruce.’ Bruce is Brother Love. ‘No, I like Bruce. I don’t like Brother Love.’ I think he was a little offended by the gimmick. I know a lot of people were offended by the gimmick and felt it was blasphemous and what have you. But Andre just didn’t like it. So, finally, we were building up to SummerSlam where Jesse Ventura was the special referee. Brother Love Show was gonna have DiBiase, Jesse, and Andre on. I’m shitting my pants because Andre had told Vince he did not want to work with me. I’m dreading going to TV because I know I’ve gotta work something out with Andre. He was OK, but he had that look that he was listening but wasn’t gonna acknowledge me. When he got out there, he put his hand on me, and it was like, ‘Oh God, please don’t choke me, Andre.’ He came back afterwards and waited for me at Gorilla and shook my hand and said, ‘That was really great. You’re really, really great.’ And that was one of the best days of my life because the Boss had validated me and said I was great.
As reported by the Associated Press, the WWE concussion lawsuit being overseen by Konstantine Kyros is being brought up to the Supreme Court after previous appeals were denied. The lawsuit, which features over 50 pro wrestlers (including the likes of Road Warrior Animal, King Kong Bundy, and Jimmy Snuka), has repeatedly failed in past legal attempts. Back in 2018, federal judge Vanessa Bryant found that there was no evidence that WWE knew that blows to the head caused chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Kyros was also criticized by the judge for not cooperating under court rules and ordered him to pay the WWE’s legal fees. Kyros attempted to appeal the decision but was denied by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City. Kyros believes that the wrestlers have been “deprived of their fundamental rights as US Citizens, including their right to appeal.”
While doing his Twitter Q&A, CM Punk named five AEW wrestlers whose potential stands out to him: “I see five guys that have potential. (Powerhouse) Hobbs, Darbs (Darby Allin), (Brian) Pillman (, Jr.), (Ricky) Starks, Jungle Boy. And that’s not to say there are others, but those guys stick out.”
While speaking with the New York Post, Cody Rhodes was asked if he’d be satisfied with facing Sting in a cinematic match instead of a traditional one: “To me, the cinematic matches, they really don’t have a current definition. I’ve seen the Stadium Stampede. I’ve seen the Boneyard [match]. I’ve seen various different ways to present cinematic. And really cinematic just means with different camera cuts. It can mean a lot of things, but ask me that question again in a few months because I want the opportunity to stand across from the Stinger and I think he knows that. It’s almost kind of itching at me under my skin that if there is somebody I wanted to beat, it’s the face of TNT’s hottest period and run.”
“I Quit the Inner Circle” is the latest episode of Sammy Guevara’s vlog which you can watch by clicking here.
Sammy Guevara’s temporary spot in IMPACT Wrestling now belongs to Black Taurus. After quitting the Inner Circle on AEW Dynamite on February 10, Guevara was scheduled to work IMPACT Wrestling’s most recent set of tapings. Guevara ended up being sent home from the IMPACT tapings in Nashville, and now we have some more details in regards to what was planned for him. A report from SLAM Wrestling first claimed Guevara was slated to appear on IMPACT but did not like the creative direction of the angle, and made it known to executives. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also confirmed the part about an AEW wrestler not being happy with IMPACT creative (later ID’d as Guevara) but could not verify any other details. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Guevara was going to win three matches at the IMPACT Wrestling tapings that took place between February 9-11. It was noted that Guevara didn’t like what was planned for him, and the Observer claims one IMPACT source told them he shouldn’t have liked it because the creative wasn’t very good in the first place. The report notes that Guevara suggested he won the X Division title and returned to AEW without losing it, so it would be up for grabs in a tournament, but that idea was turned down. IMPACT elected to not use Guevara if he didn’t follow the plans they’d already laid out, with the Observer explaining that IMPACT was mad because they had plans already in place for AEW talent and then the talent refused to comply. It was noted that things have already been smoothed over now but there was worry about how the cross-promotional relationship could have been affected, and Guevara won’t be returning to IMPACT. No exact details about plans for Guevara are known besides him being tabbed to win the three matches, but the angle was reportedly a collaboration between Chris Jericho and Don Callis. Once Guevara was pulled from the tapings, IMPACT put Black Taurus in his spot and the next set of shows should give some indication as to what was planned. The Observer’s Dave Meltzer noted that it would appear (not confirmed) but based on the matches so far, we could have seen Guevara debut in a six-man tag match that also featured Ace Austin & Chris Bey vs. Willie Mack & Josh Alexander & Trey Miguel. Taurus is also scheduled to team with Austin & Bey next week, but that is not a confirmation that original plans for Guevara would’ve seen him in that spot either. It’s worth noting that Taurus’ TV return came on last week’s episode of IMPACT after he was revealed as the surprise member of The Decay alongside Rosemary and Crazzy Steve, but that was recorded at a previous set of tapings. Taurus won a quick squash match over Kaleb with a K and won a mixed six-man tag match with Decay against XXXL and Tenille Dashwood. Guevara’s only comments on the issue came in the form of his latest vlog, where he was seen rolling around in the snow without a jacket because the internet was talking about how much “heat” he had.
Sting got his first taste of action Wednesday night on Dynamite…although he was on the wrong end of it. Team Taz came out and called out Sting for a little talk. Taz urged Sting to drop the bat, telling him that without the bat, he’s done. Sting fell for the trap, attacking Cage after removing the bat but Hook attacked from behind. With Sting fighting off Hook, Cage went in and hit the powerbomb, laying out Sting in the middle of the ring. After the show, Tony Schiavone said that Sting was feeling fine and decided to take the move because he thought it was “good for business.” This was the first bump in the ring for the 61-year-old since the Night of Champions 2015 match against Seth Rollins where he was seriously injured. Sting announced his retirement a year later. Sting will team up with Darby Allin to take on Brian Cage and Ricky Starks at Revolution.
Pro-wrestling superstar Terry Funk seems quite excited for the upcoming exploding barbed wire world title deathmatch at the March 7th AEW Revolution pay per view. The person running the Funker’s Twitter account has revealed that the hardcore legend has wished competitors Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega good luck for the insane bout, and adds that the match may even be a swift kick in the ass for WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. The tweet reads, “Just talked to Mr. Funk & he’s doing okay. He just wanted to wish @JonMoxley & @KennyOmegamanX the best of luck in their exploding barbed wire match. He says the match is a good way for @aew to wake up Vince with a good kick in his ass. He wants you to know he’s pulling for you!” Funk is certainly no stranger to the exploding barbed wire stipulation. He previously faced long-time rival/friend Mick Foley in the match type, as well as against Japanese legend Atsushi Onita.
During a recent episode of "Grilling JR", Jim Ross spoke on a key commentary lesson that he learned from Vince McMahon. Here’s what he had to say: “I know he wanted to stay involved and keep his TV presence established. I had a variety of partners in WCW, and all of them were good, quite frankly. I think he liked that rub. He sat in a good chair, and that chair facilitated a lot of guys to get exposure and so forth. Our first outing was not good because he talked too much. That sounds really, really shitty for me to say that because I talk all the time, but I’m the play-by-play guy. I’ve gotta set the table and stay between the lines. I have a big issue with commentary to this day – one is talking through false finishes. How do we know the false finish is not the finish unless we know the finish? So, all of a sudden we talk through a false finish because we know that’s not the finish. It takes the edge off. The other thing is the use of pronouns. I know we make fun of Vince with that, but one of the things Vince taught me on commentary was not to overuse pronouns – ‘He hit him. He did it again!’ Who the fuck is he? If the TV is on down my hall and I’m in my kitchen and I hear ‘He did it’, I’m wondering who the hell they’re talking about. It doesn’t stick…..a lot of announcers do that today, and I catch myself doing that. I hate it. The best way to get talent over, and that’s the only job a broadcaster has is to get talent over – you do it with their names and nicknames……I tried to explain that to Dusty, and he got it quite frankly. Our second broadcast was better than the first broadcast, but still with too many pronouns in my opinion. He did fine. Dusty had great charisma.
Aaron Solow and Bayley announced that they’ve decided to call off their engagement and end their relationship. Solow wrote: “This has been an extremely difficult decision to make. Pam and I have come to the realization that we have a completely different idea of what we want our future to look like, because of this we feel that it would be in our best interests to call off our engagement and end our relationship. We have a lot of great memories together that we’ll forever cherish. We’ve agreed to remain friends and will continue to support each other in our careers and lives. We ask that you please respect our privacy on this matter.”
Rapper Bow Wow has started his pro wrestling training with Rikishi at Knokx Pro Entertainment. He is talking about how he wants to wrestle for WWE and is trying to build a match with Bad Bunny.
Tom Cole, a former WWE ring boy in the early 90s who claimed that he was sexually abused by WWE officials, committed suicide last Friday according to his brother Lee. In a post on social media, Lee wrote, "My brother Tom committed suicide a couple of hours ago. Vince McMahon and his wife Linda let child molesters into their companies years ago and did everything possible to cover up what they did to my brother. I hope you can sleep good at night Vince. Our family suffers." The various incidents date back to 1992 when Cole accused WWE ring announcer Mel Phillips and another official, Terry Joyal, of molesting younger ring boys. (Ed. Note: Terry Joyal is the real name of Terry Garvin [1st]). At the time, Cole said that Joyal made sexual advances on him when he was just 16 years old, and also three years later. He also revealed that Phillips had a foot fetish with him and after turning down their advances, he was fired from his job. WWE always denied being in on the details even though the company did fire Mel Phillips. WWE later sued The New York Post and columnist Phil Mushnick for a story they wrote about the scandal. A few years ago when Business Insider tackled the story, a former high-level WWE employee said that both Vince and Linda McMahon "clearly knew what was going on, but really did nothing to stop it." Mushnick also wrote that McMahon confessed that he suspected Phillips had an "unnatural" interest in young boys. Cole was hired back by WWE and as part of an agreement, they paid for his education with the clause that if he drops out or failed to show up at any class, he'd be fired. Cole, who was fired by Linda McMahon for failing in college, later said that the only reason that WWE brought him back at the time was to extract information from him regarding an investigation that the U.S. government opened on WWE. Joyal, who was brought in the company by Pat Patterson, resigned from his Vice President of Talent position and Patterson resigned with him after he was also mentioned in sexual misconduct allegations. During a "Larry King Live" interview which featured Vince McMahon discussing the allegations, Barry Orton, the brother of Cowboy Bob Orton and uncle to Randy Orton, called in and accused Joyal of sexually assaulting him in 1978 when he was 19 years old. Joyal died of cancer in 1998.
Last weekend, former WWF ring attendant Tom Cole took his own life. The ex-WWF employee had been suffering from massive depression, some of it due to the recent celebration of Pat Patterson’s life following his death. Cole had been victimized by former WWF employee Mel Phillips, who was part of a sexual abuse scandal involving young men. Cole, 14 at the time of the incident, has never forgotten despite the WWE doing its best to make sure people forget about it. Phillips was once fired for his misdeeds but hired back on the condition he avoided children at all costs. He did not and was fired again for a sexual incident involving a minor. On "Wrestling Observer Radio", Dave Meltzer discussed the scandal in a little more detail for those unaware of it and gave more details into the events that eventually led to Cole’s passing. Despite Phillips and Terry Garvin being widely considered the two main offenders in the scandal, Cole believed Pat Patterson knew everything going on and kept silent. While Garvin and Phillips were fired, Patterson resigned after the scandal but came back in later years. In the weeks following Patterson’s passing, Tom Cole felt the overwhelming praise for Patterson’s legacy overshadowed his involvement in the scandal as it was never brought up. This has been said to be a contributing factor that cause his depression to trigger and led to his suicide. “One of the things that really bothered him… when Pat Patterson died that meant that Pat Patterson, Terry Garvin, and Mel Phillips were all dead and he was going to talk to Slam Wrestling at that point, but he was very depressed at the fact that WWE lionized Pat Patterson and that everyone lionized Pat Patterson and that almost everyone ignored his aspect of the Patterson story — and most people did, not everyone, but most people did. Paterson never did anything directly to him, but his feeling was that Pat Patterson knew everything and so [Cole felt that Patterson] was not an innocent man. He was not a great man because Pat Patterson knew everything with Terry Garvin and Mel Phillips and he allowed it to happen.” WWE has been known for lionizing people upon their passing, as many people will reference their cleaning of the reputation of the Ultimate Warrior following his death. However, this particular incident directly affected the life of someone because of the gravity of the incident swept away.
Pat Laprade, who was a good friend of Pat Patterson's responded today saying, "So sick to read so many people disrespecting Pat Patterson since the death of Tom Cole. I have all the sympathy in the world for Cole and his family. But Pat didn’t do anything. Or cover anything up. That’s not who Pat was. Those behind this have been fired and never came back. Pat had a weird sense of humour, especially regarding his own sexuality, and it could be misinterpreted. That’s all. Cole felt Pat must have known, but based on what? Nothing. Just because he was gay like the other 2. Again, I feel for what happened to Cole, but Pat was clean."
Jerry Lawler, Arn Anderson, and Brooke Hogan were all announced for the next WrestleCon in Tampa over WrestleMania weekend.
Pro wrestler Teddy Hart is in legal trouble again. He was recently arrested for evading arrest, injuring child/elderly/disabled, and possession of a controlled substance. As of last report he was still being held in the Tarrant County Correction Center in Texas. He is the nephew of Jim Niedhart.
MVP apparently suffered some sort of leg injury during last Monday's RAW. Last night’s show saw Riddle and Lucha House Party defeat MVP and RAW Tag Team Champions Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Business in six-man action. MVP appeared on RAW Talk after the show and was using crutches to get around. He also posted a photo of the crutches to his Instagram account, joking in the caption, “I’m uh po’ some Robitussin on it…”. MVP also indicated that he was using some spirits to ease the pain as he posted a photo of a post-show drink and wrote, “Bourbon works…”. MVP posted the same RAW Talk photo to his Instagram account and laughed at one fan comment. The fan asked, “Needing the crutches from carrying raw for a year?” He responded with a laughing emoji in the comments section. It was speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio that the leader of The Hurt Business may have blown his knee out during the six-man match. Dave Meltzer noted that the injury may have came after MVP took a bump off the apron and landed on his feet, then returned to the ring, but that was not confirmed. He was seen limping in the ring after the apparent knee injury, which came late in the match, and was then helped to the back when the camera was off them. When the camera was put back on the group, MVP was seen trying to walk on his own and tough it out.Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Terry Pantera had surgery last week. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Brian Dixon was hit by a car while shoveling his driveway. He suffered minor injuries to his hip and shoulders and the driver fled the scene. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Kane, who passed away February 8th. He had been in poor health, suffering from kidney disease and had had both his legs amputated before suffering multiple strokes. He was 55 years old. Kane, whose real name was Sam Coughran, first appeared in Oklahoma working for the World Wrestling Empire as a colour analyst and ring announcer under the name Jay Samuel. But his size and understanding of pro wrestling lead him to train and become an in-ring performer. Much of his career was paired up with Rocco Valentino and Valentino has frequently said that he would not have had the career he had if not for Jimmy Kane. Valentino and Kane initially feuded over the OPW Oklahoma Title, as Kane defeated Valentino to become the inaugural champion on July 3, 1996. Valentino would capture the title from him on November 22, 1997, but Kane would get it back on March 7, 1998. That second reign would not last long as Kane would team with OPW Oklahoma Tag Team Champions Body Count (Krull Danzig & Brett Knight) to face Valentino and Generation X (Zane Morris & Ian St. James) in a 6-man match where all the titles were on the line. All 3 members of the Playboy Cartel walked away without their titles and while Kane would remain a force in OPW, it seemed like he began to lose his focus. He was suspended at the beginning of July, 1999 after an attack on OPW President Pete Maguire and many thought that was the end of Kane’s presence in OPW. But Kane returned at the beginning of 2000 and formed New Genesis with Ian St. James. The pair would go on to beat The Bad Boys, Splash Jackson & Bull Schmitt, for the OPW Oklahoma Tag Team Titles on February 26, 2000. They held the titles until May, 27, 2000 when they were stripped, again due to actions of Kane and Kane again disappeared from OPW. Kane would return in January 2001, reforming New Genesis and once again targeting Rocco Valentino, as well as the rest of the VIP Crew. The bad blood between Valentino and Kane built over the next few months until then-OPW commissioner Brian Lakewood had no choice but to order a Cage Match for them to settle their issue. It was the first steel cage match held in Oklahoma for 15 years and over 500 fans showed up to watch either live or on closed-circuit television. What they saw amazed them as Valentino got a controversial win over Kane, leading to Kane departing OPW for good. One year later, Valentino was engaged in a war against the Great Bolo [2nd] and Samsh Hansen and called in Kane as a surprise tag team partner for a match against them. When that was over, Kane told Valentino “you owe me”, but that debt was apparently never collected on as that was Kane’s last appearance in an Oklahoma ring. Kane quietly returned to his retirement, residing in Broken Arrow and raising his son. Already diagnosed as a diabetic, Kane’s health took turns for the worse in recent years until his final passing February 8th. But the influence he had on Rocco Valentino and many of the OPW fans from 1997 - 2001 cannot be undertaker. The legend of “The Bad Man” is one that sets a high bar to be matched. Kane has 17 documented matches in Oklahoma at the time of this writing. The earliest was March 8, 1997 in Bristow for Maximum Championship Wrestling as Kane teamed with the Playboy Cartel against Rocco Valentino and Generation X. No winner is known for that match. The last was April 14, 2002 in Tulsa, OK for OCW as Kane teamed with Rocco Valentino to defeat The Great Bolo [2nd] & Smash Hansen.
