Wrestling Great Tony Atlas Still Thinks He's Relevant. Nah...

Many remember Tony Atlas, a former WWE Tag Team Champion better known these days for his blundering on MTV?s ?True Life: I Am a Pro Wrestler,? as his independent show was being shut down for not having the proper licensing.

He has since faded from the limelight, and actually, hasn?t been heard from for years.

Until this past week, that is, when Atlas was attending an Ohio Valley Wrestling show. OVW, for many years now, has been what a Triple-A baseball team is to the major leagues ? the final stages of development before being called up to the main roster. Atlas was, according to 1wrestling.com, evaluating matches, and approached current ECW World Champion C. M. Punk and said the amount of wrist tape he used was not ?what the office was looking for.?

Punk, who as a main eventer (even though it?s a C-level show, it?s still a main event slot) may know a thing or two about what the office is looking for, went out to the ring with his tape done the same way as it?s always done.

There was then a backstage altercation between Punk and Atlas, where Atlas commented on the attitudes of certain workers, all the while staring at Punk. Punk, of course, took exception to this, and asked Atlas if he even knew who he was. According to reports from the Wrestling Observer, Atlas then said that even though he?s over 50, he could still kick Punk?s ass. This is just another shining example of class from the man who witnessed the murder of Bruiser Brody in Puerto Rico, but refused to testify.

This, of course, will all blow over, but it?s funny to see how even Tony Atlas thinks he?s relevant in today?s wrestling scene.
