Dream Match: AJ Styles says he has been calling Triple H to convince him to face him at WrestleMania 37 – but he also wants Edge

Posted: Dec 23rd 2020 By: Alex McCarthy

AJ Styles has said several times he is in the final stage of his career, but he has a lot he wants to do before he calls it a day.

The Phenomenal One holds the distinction as having what is currently The Undertaker’s final ever match in WWE at WrestleMania, but his CV at the Show of Shows is pretty good.

He had a stellar opener with Shane McMahon at ‘Mania 33, he took on Chris Jericho at his first ‘Mania a year earlier and Shinsuke Nakamura at 34.

At WrestleMania 35 he took on Randy Orton, but who else would he like to face if he could choose at 37?

Talking to talkSPORT, Styles had two names on his list.

“Well, if it can’t be Drew McIntyre [for the WWE title], give me Edge. If it can’t be Edge, give me Triple H. There’s a number of guys that are willing to step up and it can be any one of those.

“I’m telling you, I want Edge. I got some payback to get from the Royal Rumble. I got some payback to get from that spear. So it’s time to get some payback!”

Styles managed to talk The Undertaker into facing him at WrestleMania 36 and Styles says he is calling Triple H trying to make the same case.

“I feel like I’ve put him in a situation like I did The Undertaker. ‘Hey, hey, hey’ [laughs]. Will he accept? I don’t know.

“But these are guys that I’ve always thought, wow, they’re great and even speaking to them, you realise their mindset and the way they approach things are totally different to a lot of other performers,” said Styles.

“They just, there’s something about them. There’s a reason why he’s still doing what he’s doing. NXT is a brand because of Triple H. There’s no question of that.

“So I would love to see how that would work in a match with him. Will it ever happen? I don’t know, but I’m trying guys!”
