Matt Hardy Fell A Second Time At All Out While Chasing Sammy Guevara

A new report claims that a disorientated Matt Hardy fell a second time and hit his neck while chasing Sammy Guevara at All Out.

A new report claims that Matt Hardy, still feeling the effect of being knocked out, fell and hit his neck on the concrete after his All Out match was allowed to continue.

Three days on from All Out and the main talking point from the show is the nasty fall Matt Hardy suffered during his match with Sammy Guevara. Not the type of post-show attention Tony Khan would have been hoping for. For anyone who still hasn't seen it, Hardy and Guevara overshot a table which resulted in the former's head hitting the concrete.

The reason the incident is still being talked about is due to the fact the match was allowed to continue. There have also been conflicting reports as to the state of Hardy after the fall from AEW and Hardy's wife, Reby. While Reby claims her husband was concussed by the fall, AEW and Khan have both issued statements claiming that is not the case.

The plot continues to thicken via a report from Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio. Alvarez claims that after Hardy was allowed to continue, and he proceeded to search for Guevara, the disorientated veteran fell again. Apparently the second fall resulted in Hardy hitting his neck on the concrete. Alvarez's take away is that wrestlers and those who hire them need to leave their "show must go on" mentality in the past.

Bryan Alvarez on WOR: "I timed the spot, and Matt Hardy was down for 44 seconds, flat on his back unconscious, before the ref even started counting."
Also goes on to say that while Matt and Sammy were attempting to continue their match in the backstage area, the disoriented Matt Hardy fell again and hit the back of his neck hard on the concrete. Both Dave and Bryan give examples of concussions and other scary injuries across promotions, (Goldberg, Daniel Bryan, Shawn Michaels, Kairi Sane, Johnny Gargano in WWE, Bret Hart in WCW, KENTA in NJPW), and conclude that wrestlers and promotions need to get rid of the "show must go on" mentality and call matches off to protect the workers.

On top of that, Alvarez timed how long Hardy was on the floor for following the first fall before the referee started to count. 44 seconds. Since it was technically a Last Man Standing match, that alone provided AEW an easy-out. There was no need for a cover or a submission, the ref could have just counted to ten while Hardy was being treated and that would have been that.

This appears to be a situation in which multiple people have managed to get their wires crossed. Hardy probably shouldn't have been allowed to continue, but either he or AEW or both wanted to finish the match as planned. He obviously needed to win too otherwise he'd have had to leave the company. As with anything in wrestling though, finding a way around that would have been possible if necessary.
