The Hunt for the Identity of PHoX

The Hunt for the Identity of PHoX

Posted: Jul 17th 2020 By: CMBurnham

The mysterious masked man known only as PHoX has been terrorizing ASP for most of this year. And when it seemed like the mystery had been solved, PHoX simply changed the rules of the game to continue the guessing. Who is he? What is his agenda? Little to nothing is known about the masked competitor, but let’s take a look at what few clues there are to see what might be put together.

PHoX initially appeared at the first event ASP held at Venue 23. His appearance distracted Gemini [2nd], costing him his opportunity to advance in the tournament for the ASP 5-Star Title. Gemini and PHoX would have a pair of singles matches, resulting in one victory for each before PHoX would end up teaming with current ASP Champion Angel Camacho against O’Brien and Gemini. PHoX suffered a defeat in this match and after the match was over, his mask was removed to reveal the man we now know as Thorne the Hunter. It appeared the mystery was over, that PHoX had simply been a ruse of some sort to get inside Gemini’s head and the man from Planet 9 had been victorious.

But that was not the case. Though it would not be apparent for a couple of months, the mantle of PHoX would not disappear so easily. Instead, when ASP resumed once pro wrestling cards were allowed again after the COVID outbreak, PHoX competed in the Battle Royal for the vacant ASP Mid-American Title. He was eliminated quickly. Also on that card, Thorne the Hunter took on Gemini. Was Thorne now competing under both identities? If so, why?

Apparently, that was not the answer, as Thorne has embroiled himself in the ASP 5-Star and Heavyweight Title pictures with O’Brien, ASP 5-Star Champion Dexter Hardaway and Double D. PHoX, meanwhile, has been slowly climbing the ladder, putting together victories over talents such as J. J. Hefley and Mike Starr. But most intriguingly, this past Sunday saw PHoX compete against Starr with ANOTHER PHoX at ringside. Same look. Same mask. Same type of body language.

So what is the answer? Who is PHoX? What is his agenda? He never speaks. He never seems to make his wishes known. But he certainly is successful. If he is a member of the ASP roster, then he is going to almost certainly run into a problem by perhaps being forced to face himself in a match. But it seems more likely that if he is an established wrestler, he is someone who is not an ASP regular. Someone who may not compete in the Oklahoma City area at all. Or maybe he is simply who he is: PHoX. An individual unto himself with his own agenda.

Whatever the answers are, only more time (and maybe more victories) will tell.
