Showcase Gives BPW Oklahoma Champ The Royal Treament

When you call yourself The Showcase, it’s difficult to believe you would settle for second best.
When you think of yourself as a role model and savior, it’s hard to believe that you would not aim for the top.
So when UWE Apex Champion Alex Royal attacked BPW Oklahoma Champion Derek James after the BPW event this past Saturday, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise. But James was caught off guard and left in a precarious position.
Royal had had the BPW Oklahoma Title in his sights before, when current WFC Tag Team and BPW Lion Heart Champion Tommy Dean was the champion. But Dean fended off the challenge of Royal and Royal disappeared from the BPW scene, content to focus on his interests in UWE and WFC.
But at the end of May, BPW presented an event in Bristow and Royal signed the contract to face Derek James for the Oklahoma Title. That match ended in a DQ victory for Royal, which should have given him the leverage to ask the Board of Directors to grant him another title match.
Asking for things is not the way that Alex Royal typically operates. He is much more content to take what he can and dares anyone to stop him.
Intriguingly, Royal did not seem to show interest in James this night. Instead, he faced off against Graham Bell. And in reality, it was a 2-on-1 situation because Alex’s brother Zach Royal was present at ringside. With WFC Hometown Heroes Champion Luke Langley preparing for his own shot at the BPW Oklahoma Title, Graham was left without any backup and even a skilled mercenary like Bell could not overcome the chicanery that the Royals put together. Bell was forced to take a loss in this encounter. But that was not the last the fans would see of Royal that night.
After James was victorious over Langley and Brian Dixon, Alex and Zach made their way out to the ring. Alex entered the ring, but offered a handshake for the champion, which James hesitantly took. The handshake went off without any problem, but after it was over, Royal sprayed mace in the eyes of Derek James. The blinded champion crumpled to the mat as the Royals stood over him and Alex made it clear that he would not stop until that Oklahoma Title was his.
After the Royals left, Brandon Groom, C. M. Burnham and other BPW personnel made their way to the assistance of the champion. And as James was taken to the back, Burnham announced to the crowd that IF Derek James was in condition to compete the following week, he would sign a match between the two of them. No sneak attacks, no mace. Just a straight-forward wrestling match to resolve the situation.
As of Wednesday, Derek James posted video of the incident on his Facebook as well as a statement indicating his desire to follow through with the match. But no word has come to this office yet regarding whether James is officially medically cleared for competition. If so, fans can rest assured that Alex Royal will be ready and should not be surprised at the tactics he uses in the match. Royal obviously believes he is the superior athlete. He certainly wants to be a dual champion in Oklahoma. And most importantly he wants all the fans to have to bow before him and acknowledge the greatness he brings wherever he goes.
