On The Hunt...For Adventure!

On The Hunt...For Adventure!

Posted: May 26th 2020 By: Michael Hunt

The truth of the matter is that professional wrestlers do what they do for money. Whether they admit that often up to them. But that doesn’t mean that the money always excites them, For many, they seek the thrill of adventure. And that is what ASP Tag Team Champion Antonio Vega has finally embraced.

It’s been tough for Vega. He is one-half of the ASP Tag Team Champions with Tino Valentino and the pair was looked at very highly as a quick-to-gel Tag Team when they won the tag team titles on their second pairing together. But then all wrestling events in Oklahoma were cancelled for 2 months and for someone who craves the thrill of the hunt in the ring, Vega became like a pent-up prisoner. He needed action. He needed competition. And he got more than he probably bargained for on two nights this past weekend.

March 23rd saw pro wrestling officially return to Oklahoma in Guthrie as BCW put on their event. Antonio Vega was put into a triple threat match against Reggie Lincoln and Blade [2nd]. But Blade had made a deal with the devil as he had hired the services of C. M. Burnham to be at ringside with him. The monstrous 400-pounder was an imposing threat as he usually is in the ring, dominating both Vega and Lincoln during the match, but Vega persisted, showing an opportunistic streak which allowed him to. almost capitalize on a miscue from Burnham. After putting Vega in the corner, Blade called for Burnham to throw his cane to Blade. But Burnham over shot and the cane ended up in the hands of Vega, who tried to turn it in to the great equalizer. After removing it from Blade’s hands, the Big and Bad monster was thrown from the ring and while Burnham tried to assist his charge, Lincoln was able to capitalize and pin Vega, picking up his first win in BCW. A valiant effort by Vega, but not quite enough.

The next afternoon, Vega once again found himself in Triple Threat action, but this time the stakes were higher as he and Doc Black were facing ASP 5-Star Champion Dexter Hardaway for his title. Black and Hardaway were no strangers to each other but Vega had had little interaction with either of them over the past year’s time and hoped to capitalize as a wild card of sorts. Obviously, the experience edge lay with the champion as Hardaway is a veteran of 20 years. Black certainly had no issue utilizing the underhanded tactics, but Hardaway has seen ever trick in the book there as well. But it appeared that Vega was actually going to have the upper hand because, while all three competitors had wrestled the previous night, only Vega had competed in a Triple Threat Match and therefore he was only one with those skills freshly tuned up. And sure enough, Vega was able to catch Black and put him down, only to see Hardaway throw Vega from the ring and pick up the win and retain the championship. Again, victory so close to Vega, only to slip from his grasp.

And so, the adventure continues. Obviously, Vega must think about upcoming challengers for the ASP Tag Team Titles. But he is also looking to continue making himself known in other federations in the area. And where ever he goes, fans can be sure that adventure will follow and the hunt is on!
