When asked about his status, former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal noted that he's medically cleared and ready to make his return. He's just waiting for WWE to give him a call.
Mahal has confirmed he's ready to make his WWE return and there are some thoughts as to how and when that might work. Saying he's ready whenever they're ready to have him, Mahal has been cleared for in-ring action and the 33-year-old is just waiting in the wings for the right opportunity. WWE may simply be holding off because of the current state of affairs.
Mahal suffered a knee injury back in June 2019, an injury that required surgery. He's been on the shelf ever since. There was some speculation after an Instagram post that he might be back in time for the Royal Rumble, but he didn't appear. Instead, Wrestling Rumors’ Chris Featherstone says Mahal has informed them he's still waiting to be reintroduced to television.
Speculation is that WWE has plans for him as they deemed him a high draft pick back in October 2019 when he was selected ahead of talents like Samoa Joe, The Miz, Baron Corbin, and Rey Mysterio. And, despite his injuries being cleared up and WWE having not brought him back to television, he was not part of the recent string of releases this past week. The Singh Brothers were also not released so it is assumed they will be working with him upon his return.
What's A Good Plan For Mahal?
While he's not the same heel character he was when he won the championship back in 2017, the belief seems to be that he's more than a midcard guy in WWE. And, as he appeared beside Drew McIntyre during McIntyre's chronicle episode on WWE Network, he's more than a player who will simply compete for 24/7 Championship, even though he has a built-in beef with Rob Gronkowski.
